PETERSEN MEDIA- A busy week with the World of Outlaws would see Kerry Madsen and his Keneric Racing team have an up and down week and not quite get the results they were hoping for.
“It definitely was not the week this race team expects to have,” Kerry Madsen said. “We had some really good speed at times, but the results just were not there for us.”
Kicking things off at the Brad Doty Classic on Tuesday night at the Attica Raceway Park, Madsen would open a busy week up by timing the Keneric Health Care/Keneric Racing/American Racing Custom Wheels backed No. 29 machine in ninth fastest in his time trials group.
Starting in the third spot of his heat race, the Australian National Champion would finish in the third spot, which placed him in the ninth row for the 40-lap feature event. On a very slick surface, Madsen searched around multiple lines on the speedway trying to get going forward but in the end would finish in the 19th spot.
Heading to the Eldora Speedway for Kings Royal Weekend, Madsen would set the standard in time trials for the ‘Jokers Wild’ event before a spirited battled in heat race action with Donny Schatz saw him finish in the second spot.
Running seventh in the Dash, Madsen would make a big move in the feature event that saw him come from the third row to challenge the leaders following an early caution. Battling with Rico Abreu for a spot on the podium in the race’s final laps, Madsen would finish in the fourth spot and get his Kings Royal weekend off to a great start.
Friday night would see Madsen’s night come to an early end as he would be involved in a wild wreck during time trials. Though he would be uninjured in the accident, his team opted to focus on Saturday night’s Kings Royal.
Coming out swinging on Saturday night, Madsen would stop the clocks with the fastest lap of the night with 60 cars checked into the pit area. On the strength of his quick time performance, ‘The Mad Man’ would start and finish fifth in his heat race, which would line him up in the 10th row for the 40-lap ‘A’ Main.
On a wicked fast surface, Madsen would struggle to make a run through the field like he had hoped, but was still able to gain some positions during the duration of the event as he would close his weekend out with a 15th place finish.
“The Kings Royal format is tough, and that’s one of the reasons it is such a prestigious race,” Madsen said. “We kind of got stuck back in our heat race with the track really fast and sat in a deep hole for the feature. We gave it a go, but we just weren’t good enough. My guys are working hard, and we have another big week in front of us. Thanks to the Gavranich family for their continued support and all of our partners for all they do.”
2016 BY THE NUMBERS- Starts-59, Wins-8, Top-5’s-24, Top 10’s-35
