PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking on the World of Outlaws one final time in 2017, Cory Eliason and Antaya Motorsports would have an up and down weekend at Calistoga Speedway.
“Friday night we just couldn’t get going in the feature event, and on Saturday night we really came alive at the end of the B, and had a good run going in the feature,” Cory Eliason said. “Unfortunately a fuel line started to leak and it forced me to pull off.”
Attacking the ½ mile speedway on Friday night, Eliason would time the Good Guys Rod and Custom Association/Fuel Curve/Fire Protection Management machine in 21st quickest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up seventh in his heat race, the Kingsburg, CA driver had his elbows up and took care of business as he advanced to the fifth spot at the finish line which transferred him directly into the 25-lap feature event.
Watching the track as the night went on, Eliason would take the green flag from the 15th starting spot. Running in the 15th spot for much of the race, Eliason would slow on the 14th lap and make a quick stop in the work area.
Able to rejoin the field from the tail end of the lead lap cars, Eliason would pick up a few spots in the final 10-laps as he raced his way back to a 15th place finish.
Back at it on Saturday night, the King of the West Championship contender would get off to a rough start as he would time in 25th quickest and find himself in an early hole.
With the track surface still fast in heat races, Eliason would pick up a couple of positions after lining up ninth but a seventh place finish would not be good enough to get him into the feature and he would be forced into the Last Chance Showdown.
Taking the green flag from the seventh starting position in the LCS, Eliason would come alive at the end of the race as he raced his way to a fifth place finish and punched his ticket into the 30-lap finale.
Lining up 23rd in the feature event, Eliason continued to run well in the feature event, as he was able to make headway on the slick ½ mile. Racing his way through the field, Eliason would get up to the 13th spot before he would starting getting sprayed with fuel as his night would come to a close on the 25th lap.
“The guys continued to work really hard, and we got it pretty good in the B and in the A on Saturday night,” Eliason added. “ We may have been able to fight for a Top-10 late in the race, but it wasn’t meant to be. Big thanks to everyone that continues to work on this thing, and to everyone that supports us in some way.”
