PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning home to California after spending a week racing in Pennsylvania, Richard Vander Weerd would charge from his 15th starting position to finish in the sixth spot on Saturday night at the Perris Auto Speedway.

“I had a great time in PA, and have to thank everyone who made that trip possible, but it was nice to get back home and race with my family and friends,” Richard Vander Weerd said.

Returning to winged racing on Friday night at the Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA, Vander Weerd would again fight mechanical gremlins all night, and not get to race too much.

“We thought we had this issue fixed, but we did not, and it made for another long Friday night,” Vander Weerd added.

Saturday night saw his team head south to the Perris Auto Speedway to take on the USAC/CRA Series, where Vander Weerd has already had a ton of success at in 2015 to date.

Fighting some electrical problems during time trials, the Visalia, CA driver would time the Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Battery Worx No. 10 machine in 15th fastest.

Able to get the problem solved for heat race action, Vander Weerd would surge to the lead, and not look back as he would pick up the heat race win and move directly into the night’s feature event.

Lining up in the eighth row, Vander Weerd had his elbows up as he put on a very hard charge through the field. Going wheel-to-wheel with some of the region’s top non wing sprint car drivers, Vander Weerd was able to work his way to a sixth place finish.

“We have been very good at the Perris Auto Speedway, and I thought we rebounded well after some issues in time trials,” he would add. “A huge thank you to everyone who helps us out, and continues to allow this race team to compete.”

Richard and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Battery Worx, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Raceway and K&N for their support in 2015.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-23, Wins-5, Top 5’s-8, Top 10’s-12.

ON TAP: Richard will return to action on Saturday night at the Santa Maria Speedway with the USAC West Coast 360 Series.
