Vander Weerd’s Night End Upside Down in Hanford, CA

PETERSEN MEDIA- Running in the Top-Five all race long on Saturday night, Richard Vander Weerd would catch a rut wrong late in the feature event and it would prove detrimental as he would get upside down and his night would come to an abrupt end.

“We had a good car, and we were in the Top-Five from the drop of the green flag,” Richard Vander Weerd said. “The track was tricky and I just got into the rough stuff and off we went.”

Setting the standard in qualifying time trials, Vander Weerd would end up as the night’s fast qualifier when qualifying time trials wrapped up.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Visalia, CA driver would show off his experience at Keller Auto Speedway as he would work his way into the second spot and move on to the night’s 30-lap feature event.

Finding himself in the third row of the feature, Vander Weerd would get off to a nice start aboard the Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Mid-Valley Pipe backed No. 10 machine.

On an extremely slick surface, a mighty cushion would build up around the outside of the track, and there would be a couple of rough patches, which would lead to fits for some drivers.

Keeping his machine inside the Top-Five from the get go, Vander Weerd would find himself battling with brother, Jace, at times during the race.

In the race’s closing laps, disaster would strike Vander Weerd. Getting into a rough part of the track, Vander Weeerd’s machine would get upset and it would result in him getting upside down and bringing his night to a close on the 23rd lap.

“It’s disappointing to end your night early and upside down, but we will get it back together and return in a couple of weeks,” Richard Vander Weerd said. “Looking forward to helping Jace out on Friday night.”

Richard and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Factory Kahne Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2017.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-10, Wins-1, Top 5’s-4, Top 10’s-8.

ON TAP: Richard Vander Weerd will off this weekend but will return to action on Friday May 12th at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA for his first winged race of the season.
