Vander Weerd Sixth During Eventful Night at Perris Auto Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA- With facility issues prompting officials to run a fast paced program at the Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday night, Richard Vander Weerd’s gremlins could not have come on a worse night, but the Vander Weerd Racing team made do with what they could and Vander Weerd ended up with a sixth place finish.

“We fought some brake issues all night long, but so facility issues forced a fast paced program and we had to work fast to try to address our problem,” Richard Vander Weerd said. “It was frustrating, but it could have been a much worse night.”

Timing the Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Battery Worx No. 10 machine in 12th fastest, the Visalia, CA driver would pick up a fourth place fiish in his heat race as he was forced to pump his brakes all through the event to have them ready when he needed them.

Continuing to work on his issue, Vander Weerd would line his machine up in the sixth row for the feature event. With his brakes still hampering him, Vander Weerd would try to manage the best he could as he worked his way forward.

Still having to pump his brakes during much of the feature event, Vander Weerd would still manage to work his Mid-Valley Pipe/Basic Industries/FK Shocks machine up as high as the fourth spot on the Southern California ½ mile.

With traffic making things tricky on RVW late in the show, he would lose a couple of spots in the closing laps and come away with a sixth place finish. In the midst of a tight point battle, Vander Weerd will now head into California Sprint Week just 16 points out of the top spot.

“My guys did a really good job of addressing the issue with the limited time we have,” Vander Weerd said. “We would have liked to have been a few spots better, but we have been working hard to come out with our best foot forward during CA Sprint Week.”

Richard and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Battery Worx, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Factory Kahne Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2016.

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-24, Wins-3, Top 5’s-11, Top 10’s-18.

ON TAP: Richard will kick off his California Sprint Week this Saturday and Sunday night at the Calistoga Speedway in beautiful Calistoga, CA.
