PETERSEN MEDIA: Sean Watts and the WRS team returned to action on Saturday night in Watsonville, CA as they took part in the 7th Annual Howard Kaeding Classic in Watsonville, CA.

“We got off to an okay start in time trials, and I was out to an early lead in the heat race, but I lost the handle and our night kind of followed suit,” Sean Watts said.

With 28 cars checked in at Ocean Speedway, Watts timed the Grizzly Coolers/Schaeffer Racing Oil/Rolfe Construction backed No. 98 entry in 13th quickest in time trials, which lined him up on the front row of his heat race.

On a very slick surface during heat race action, Watts would get out to the early lead and looked to be well on his way to a heat race win and a Dash berth. Getting into the thick cushion that had built up in turns three and four too hard, Watts would lose the handle and end up finishing sixth.

Going to the 12-lap ‘B’ Main, Watts would have a fine showing that saw him win the semi going away and punch his ticket into the 30-lap Howard Kaeding Classic feature event.

Lining up 15th in the feature event, Watts really couldn’t put anything together to get moving forward. With pre race track prep holding up for most of the race, the surface stayed fast and moving around was pretty minimal for most of the field during a large portion of the race.

When the race came to a close, Watts would take the checkered with a 15th place finish.

“I think our night goes a complete different direction if I don’t make the mistake I made in the heat race,” Watts said. “It’s a little disappointing but we came of the track in one piece, and we will be back to race another day soon enough.”

Sean and the Watts Rolfe Speed-Sports team would like to thank Grizzly Coolers, Schaeffer Racing Oil, Rolfe Construction, Billet American, Kaeding Performance, Shannon Pumps, Stealth Homes, Tee’s and Tops, Team Simpson, Kistler Racing Engines, and Stan Yockey Motorsports for their continued support.

ON TAP: Watts will be out of the sprint car for a few weeks as the King of the West Series will now be off until August 26th at Petaluma Speedway.
