PETERSEN MEDIA- Competing at the Knoxville Raceway and the Badlands Motor Speedway over the weekend, Kerry Madsen and his Keneric Racing team’s results really don’t show just how strong they were each night.
“We had a really fast car all weekend, but we just had a little bad luck here and there which is a little frustrating,” Kerry Madsen said.
Kicking his weekend off at the Knoxville Raceway on Friday night, Madsen would get off to a quick start as he timed the Keneric Health Care/Keneric Racing/American Racing Custom Wheels machine in eighth fastest.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Australian National Champion would work his way forward to finish in the second spot, placing him in the third row for the 22-lap feature event.
On the historic facility located on the Marion County Fairgrounds, Madsen would work his way forward as he got up into the third spot as he raced his way past Rico Abreu. A late restart would prove problematic for Madsen as a tire issue would see him lose a few spots as he slipped back to finish in the fifth spot.
Meeting up with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series on Saturday night at the Badlands Motor Speedway in Brandon, SD, Madsen would time in second fastest in his qualifying flight before winning his heat race.
A third place finish in the Dash would place the St Marys, NSW driver in the second row of the feature event. Running in the second spot as things came to life, Madsen would take a liking to the bottom of the speedway as he chased after Brad Sweet.
With a charging Rico Abreu getting by Madsen putting him back into the third spot, Madsen would get the spot back as Abreu would find trouble a few laps later. When the action resumed, the battle would now be between Sweet, Saldana and Madsen, but Madsen would be the next to have bad luck hit him as he would come to a stop with a right rear packed full of mud.
Relegated to the back of the pack, Madsen would finish in the 15th spot.
Sunday night would see Madsen and company again check in at the Badlands Motor Speedway, and again Madsen would show great speed as he timed in second fastest.
From the front row of his heat race officials would penalize Madsen, and a fourth place finish would place him in the eighth row for the 40-lap A Main.
Deep in the field on this night, Madsen simply couldn’t get anything going. Passing would prove tough through the field, and his weekend would come to a close with a 13th place finish.
“It wasn’t the weekend we were hoping for, but we really have a great thing going heading into the Month of Money,” Madsen added. “My guys are working really hard right now and we are having some fun. The Gavranich family continues to do a ton for our team, and hopefully we can pick up some cool event wins in the coming weeks.”
