PETERSEN MEDIA- Spending her weekend taking on the ASCS Red River Region at the Creek County Speedway and Lawton Speedway, Harli White would rebound from a Friday night flip to finish fifth at the Lawton Speedway on Saturday night.
“We had really good speed during both nights, but fortunately we got taken out on Friday night,” White said. “My team worked really hard and on Saturday we were fast again, and ended up with a good finish.”
Kicking her weekend off on Friday, the Lindsay, OK driver would pull a high pill during he draw and would line her MVT/Jerry Tucker Roustabout/Lucas Oil No. 17w machine up in the fourth row of her heat race.
With the track locked down and fast on this night, White would pick up three spots during her heat, and a fourth place finish would make her eligible for the redraw.
Pulling the two pill, White would line up on the front row of the feature event but as the track continued to slick off she would lose some positions as she fell back to the seventh spot before a caution flew, and slowed the pace of the race.
Able to calm down and get her wing moved back to tighten her car up, White would pick up a few positions as she settled into the Top-Five. At the race’s halfway point, White fell victim to an errant slide-job attempt and her machine would get upside down and her night would come to an end.
Fortunately the damage to her entry was light, and the crew was able to make the necessary repairs during the day on Saturday to get White race ready for Saturday night’s event at the Lawton Speedway.
Lining up third in her heat race, White would do what she could to get to the cushion in a hurry as she would maintain the third spot when the checkered flag flew on her heat.
Finding herself in the sixth row for the feature event, White would avoid near disaster in the early stages of the race as she avoided a three-car wreck and moved into the Top-10.
With the track slick to the cushion, White would make headway by sliding up in front of her competitors in in turn one and was able to work up to the fourth spot.
Showing her nose on a few restarts, the drivers ahead of her would drop down to the low side of the speedway and halt her progress. In the closing laps of the race, the track would take rubber and though she would find it early at one end of the track, she would not find it in time at the other end of the track and slip back one spot and finish fifth.
“I was really pleased with how our car was all weekend long,” White said. “We are getting closer to a win, and we are definitely gaining every week I feel.”
