PETERSEN MEDIA: Contending for the win on Friday night at Ocean Speedway, a last lap incident would see Justin Sanders relegated to a 15thplace finish.

“We were really good on Friday night in Watsonville, CA, I just came up on a slower car on the last lap and had to throw it sideway to avoid contact,” Justin Sanders said.

Timing the North County Plastering/Andy’s Construction/Yuba Sutter Aviation No. 17 machine in 12thfastest in qualifying time trials, Sanders would score the important heat race win.

By way of the win, Sanders would advance into the Trophy Dash, where his third place finish put him in the second row to start the 30-lap feature event.

On a racy Ocean Speedway, Sanders would find himself in third during the early goings of the feature event as he chased after Bud Kaeding and Koen Shaw who were out front.

Just past the race’s halfway point, Sanders would take over the second position as he had Bud Kaeding in his crosshairs, as the Aromas, CA driver looked for more Ocean Speedway success.

Throwing a couple big moves at Kaeding, Sanders would continue to run second as this one was coming down to the wire.

Coming out of turn four to take the white flag, Sanders had a big run coming after attempting a move in one and two, and with a slower car in front of him, he would take evasive action and actually spin his car to a stop and ultimately end his night.

“It was a bummer way to end our night, but we had a fast car and we were right there going for it,’ Sanders said. “Thanks to everyone who helps this 17 car out week in and week out.”

Justin and his team would like to thank North County Plastering, Andy’s Construction, Yuba Sutter Aviation, Roadside 24hr Service, Roger’s Diner, Factory Kahne, BG Labels and Tee’s, Walker Performance Filtration, Dixon and Son Tires, Ernie’s Service Center, East Lake Village, FK Rod Ends, Triple X Race Co., DMI, Keizer Wheels, Wings Unlimited, Ti64 Titanium, AIS Heating and Sheet Metal, Fred Lint and Family, JonSan Racing, Sandblast Service, G&N Construction, and Steve Duppman Racing for their continued support in 2019.
