PETERSEN MEDIA: Traveling to Ventura Raceway with the USAC Western States Midget Series, a wild feature event would see Austin Liggett go from the front to the back before salvaging his night with a ninth place finish.

“It definitely was not the night that we wanted, but to salvage a Top-10 with a bent up racecar as helped us win championships in the past,” Austin Liggett said.

With 23 cars checked into the scenic pit area on the coast, Liggett would continue to showcase speed aboard the Excel Environmental Services/Liggett Trucking/Tool Technology midget as he timed in second fastest in time trials.

Going from sixth to fourth in his heat race, Liggett would take the green flag from the outside third row starting position. Jumping into fourth in the first couple of laps, Liggett would find himself in the middle of three-wide battle on the tight confines of Ventura Raceway.

Sitting in a tough position, Liggett would get turned around and would collect a couple of cars behind him which caused damage to his machine.

With a bent up front end, and a damaged watts link, Liggett would go to the back of the pack and see what he could do with a wounded entry. Working his way forward, the Tracy, CA driver would get back into the Top-10 and got as high as seventh in the closing laps of the race.

On the race’s final turn, a car would get out of shape in front of Liggett and forced to check up, he would lose a pair of positions as he took the checkered flag with a ninth place finish.

“Scott and my dad gave me a great car all night long, and my Mom continues to be the best crew member around,” Liggett added. “We have some time off in the midget but we may try and sneak some sprint car races in here and there.”

Austin Liggett Racing would like to thank Excel Environmental Services, Liggett Trucking, Tool Technology, Hurst Fabrications, Maxwell Industries, Shine Photography, and Morris Motorsports for their support.

2019 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-16, Wins-6, Top 5’s-12, Top 10’s-14

ON TAP: Liggett will for sure be back in action in the midget on July 20th in Petaluma, CA and as of now is trying to pencil in some USAC/CRA sprint car races.
