PETERSEN MEDIA- Fresh off of a podium run at Petaluma Speedway, Willie Croft backed that effort up with another third place finish during Saturday night’s Howard Kaeding Classic at Placerville Speedway.
“We had a pretty good car and were right there in the mix all night,” Croft said. “Good to get back on the podium, and we will look to be a couple spots better this weekend.”
Opening his night up with quick time honors in qualifying time trials, Willie Croft would go from fourth to third in his heat race and earn a spot in the all important Dash.
Finishing fourth in the Dash, Croft would grid the field from the second row of the 30-lap HK Classic feature event as he is in search of his first KWS win of the 2019 season.
When the green flag dropped, Croft got a great jump as he rode the cushion from his second row starting position to a the second spot in the running order as he chased after early leader, Billy Aton.
Stalking Aton, Croft would come under fire from Shane Golobic for position as the leaders got into traffic. Slipping back to third, Croft would stay in the hunt as the leaders would continue battle through slower traffic.
As the battle up front picked up, Croft would actually be scored as far back as fifth at the race’s halfway point, but would surge back up to third with just 10 markers left in the race.
Fighting with Justin Sanders as they battled for the final position on the podium, Croft would win the battle and close his Saturday night out with a third place finish at the 9thAnnual Howard Kaeding Classic.
“Another really good night for our race team, and I can’t thank my guys enough,” Croft added. “The last few weeks have been really good, and I am confident we will continue to gain on it moving forward.”
