PETERSEN MEDIA- Competing with both the Sprint Car Challenge Tour and King of the West Series on Saturday night in Hanford, CA during the Cotton Classic, Willie Croft would finish fifth with the SCCT before rallying to finish sixth with the KWS after an early mishap in the feature event.
“It was a decent night for our race team,” Willie Croft said. “We seemed to have good speed in both cars, and ended up coming home with a pair of Top-10’s when all was said and done.”
In Sprint Car Challenge Tour 360 action, Croft kicked things off in this program by timing the Holey Smokes BBQ/Butlerbuilt/Brown and Miller backed No. 29 entry in quickest in his qualifying group which placed him in the second row of his heat race.
On a juiced up and extremely fast racing surface early in the night, Croft would finish third in his heat race before finishing third in the Dash which ultimately lined him up in the second row of the 30-lap feature event alongside Shane Golobic.
With the track still hooked up in the feature event, it had widened out and became a little more racy for the feature. Jumping into third in the early goings of the race, Croft would find himself in a dog fight for the final position on the podium for much of the race as he battled with Dominic Scelzi
A couple of late restarts would see Croft hook up in an entertaining battle with brother-in-law, Kyle Hirst as he would close the race out with a fifth place finish.
King of the West 410 action would kick off with Croft timing in second quickest overall in time trails amongst the 22 drivers checked into the pit area before storming to a heat race win.
Just as he did in SCCT action, Croft would finish third in the Dash and grid the field from the second row as he would find himself next to Hirst to kick this one off.
Running fourth the first couple of laps, Croft would get up over the edge of the racing surface in turns one and two and it would result in him falling back to 13th.
With a strong mount underneath him, Croft would have his elbows up on the racy Keller Auto Speedway surface as he fought his way forward. Working back into the Top-10 on the 11th lap, Croft would then move into eighth with five to go after a lengthy battle for position.
Using a late restart to his advantage, Croft would pick up a couple of position positions as he would end his Cotton Classic with a sixth place finish in 410ci action.
“These double duty nights are hard work for my guys so I have to thank them for their efforts, and also want to thank all of our partners for their continued help,” Croft said. “Really looking forward to Trophy Cup this weekend.”
