Willie Croft Continues Strong Run with KWS

PETERSEN MEDIA- Willie Croft has been on a roll over the last month with the King of the West Series. The Colfax, CA driver had another strong weekend as he ran third on Friday night in Watsonville, CA and backed it up with a fourth place run at the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial on Saturday in Placerville, CA.

“Things have been going really well for us, and it is a great time to be streaking with so many big races coming up for us,” Willie Croft said. “I have to thank everyone who lends me a hand for their help, and our marketing partners for continuing to help us get up and down the road.”

Saturday night in Placerville, CA, Willie Croft kept his qualifying streak alive at the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial as he earned Car Wash Mike Fast Time honors for the fourth consecutive season.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Croft was able to work his way up to third aboard the Holey Smokes BBQ/Rudeen/Amerikote backed No. 29 mount. Battling cooling issues on Friday night and again on Saturday, Croft made the call to switch engines before the all-important Dash.

In a mad scramble, the engine change went off without issue, and ‘Double Down’ made the call for the Dash where his sixth-place finish put him in the third for the 40-lap feature event as he sought after his second career Dave Bradway Jr Memorial win.

Quickly working his way into the Top-Five, Croft would find himself battling with the likes of brother-in-law, Kyle Hirst and Tanner Carrick as they jockeyed for position all over the slick Placerville Speedway surface.

Late in the race, Hirst would have issues and Croft made contact with him causing his bumper to get into this right rear. With still a handful of laps left in the race it looked like the issue would possibly prevent Croft from making it to the finish.

With luck on his side, the right rear would hold, and Croft would cross the start/finish line with a fourth-place finish.

Also, in action with the series on Friday night in Watsonville, CA, Croft would time in third fastest of the 21 cars that checked into the pit area. Running fourth in his heat race, Croft would back it up with a fourth-place finish in the Dash.

Taking the green flag from the fourth position in the 30-lap ‘A’, Croft would quickly jump into third as he chased after Corey Day and Dominic Scelzi. As the race clicked off laps in a hurry, traffic would become a factor but it didn’t hinder the Colfax, CA driver.

Keeping pace with Scelzi as Day got away, Croft was able to tally another KWS podium.

“We have a good car, and I think we can even be a little better,” Croft added. “We have a tough slate of races in front of us, but I am excited to get back up to Skagit and run the Dirt Cup.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-14, Wins-1, Top 5’s-8, Top 10’s-10.
