PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to action on Saturday night at the Calistoga Speedway, Willie Croft picked up an eighth place finish.

“On paper we finished where he started, but we moved up through the race, we just had a restart no go our way, and we lost some spots,” Croft said.

Timing his Holey Smokes BBQ/Christian Stover Foundation/K&N No. 29 entry in 12th fastest, Croft found himself on the pole of his heat race.

Taking advantage of the prime starting spot, Croft got the jump in his heat race and went on to win in convincing fashion, putting himself in the ever-important Dash.

Finishing eight in the Dash, Croft and crew went to work on his machine to get him a little better in the  25-lap feature event.

On the very racy ½ mile speedway, ‘Double-Down’ was able to make some moves as he slowly inched his way toward the top-five.

When the caution flew on the 16th lap, Croft sat in the sixth spot, and the restart did not go his way as he slipped back to 10th, and started fighting his way back forward.

A lap-18 restart turned single file after the double file attempt had incident, and over the final seven laps, the Sacramento, CA pilot was able to get back up to the eighth spot at the finish.

“Everyone worked really hard, and we had a car that moved forward, but sometimes double file restarts can help you a ton, or hurt you a ton, and on this night it just happened to mess us up a little and we dropped some valuable positions.”
