PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting back to the Thunderbowl Raceway after a tough trip back in March, Willie Croft put a frustrating string of races behind him, as he picked up a fifth place finish with the King of the West Series on Saturday night.
“It was great to get back to Tulare, and have a good run,” Croft said. “It is feast or famine it seems at the track, and it was nice to have a good run after a couple of tough races the last few weeks.”
After kicking his night off by timing his Holey Smokes BBQ/ButlerBuilt/Brown and Miller Racing Solutions backed No. 29 machine in sixth fastest, ‘Double Down’ would race his way from his second row starting spot in his heat race, to finish in the second spot.
Moving into the night’s Dash, Croft would line up in the third row, but would slip back to finish in the eighth position, putting him in the fourth row for the 30-lap feature event.
On a Thunderbowl surface that featured some rough patches, the early goings of the race were hampered by spins, and flips, but Croft was able to work his way forward when the green flag was out.
Battling with drivers like Tanner Thorson, Jonathan Allard, and Bud Kaeding, Croft would comfortably race in the Top-10 during the feature event. With a couple of cars hooking together, while battling for position with Croft, he was able to avoid disaster as he found himself in the sixth spot.
After an open red flag, Croft’s team was able to make a few changes, which helped him work his way into the Top-Five where he would ultimately finish.
“I have to give my guys a huge thank you,” Croft said. “It has been a crazy couple of weeks, but they have hung with me, and worked hard, and a Top-Five run feel pretty good.”
Willie Croft Racing would like to thank Holey Smokes BBQ, ButlerBuilt , Brown and Miller, FK Rod Ends, Hinchman Indy, Schoenfeld, K&N, Smith Precision Products, Kaeding Performance, Dan Olson Products, Vortex Wings, Amerikote, and GUTS for their support in 2015.
2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-18, Wins-0, Top 5’s-3, Top 10’s-5.
