PETERSEN MEDIA- Though his afternoon would get cut short in Stockton, CA on Saturday, Willie Croft feels good heading into this Saturday’s King of the West opener at the same facility.
“We had an issue hamper us in the feature, but for the most part I felt pretty good in our two heat races at Stockton and am really looking forward to kicking the King of the West season off Saturday night,” Willie Croft said. “The guys worked well, we had good speed, and we made good adjustments all day long.”
Essentially using the day show as a shakedown for the impending KWS opener, Croft would flex his muscles in his first heat race as he quickly got into second after taking the green in fourth.
On the slick surface, Croft would seem to take a liking to the middle of the speedway as he challenged for the lead, only to come up just short at the line and finish second.
The Sacramento, CA driver’s second heat race saw him line the Holey Smokes BBQ/ButlerBuilt/Brown and Miller entry up in the fifth starting position and he again would flex his muscle on the slick surface as he raced his way up to another second place finish.
Taking the green flag from the sixth starting position in the 30-lap feature event, Croft would continue to run well as he would get up into the third position within the race’s first three laps until something went amiss on his Willie Croft Racing machine and he elected to head back to his trailer.
“We were good all day, and that is a good feeling heading into this weekend,” Croft added. “Going back to the same place with some good laps under our belt is a positive. Thanks to my guys and all of our partners for their effort and hard work.”
