PETERSEN MEDIA- Competing in all four nights of the Gold Cup Race of Champions, a second place run on Thursday would highlight Willie Croft’s week.

“Wednesday and Thursday night went okay for us, but we really had issues with the Outlaws on Thursday and Friday,” Croft said.

After an eighth place finish on Wednesday night to open the week up, Croft came out swinging during Thursday night’s program.

Earning quick time honors in his qualifying flight aboard the Holey Smokes BBQ/ButlerBuilt/Brown and Miller entry, Croft would look very strong in his heat race as he powered his way to the win over Rico Abreu.

Making his way into the Dash, Croft would run third to Shane Golobic and Colby Copeland as he would move into the feature event where he would take the green from the second row.

On a very slick surface that would take rubber very quickly in the feature event, Croft would use an early restart to get into second as he chased after Shane Golobic. Running in second, Croft had the task of pushing his machine in pursuit of the race lead, but also had to keep his tires under him.

With Golobic very good out front, Croft would too have a good night as he took the checkered flag with a second place finish.

Friday night marked the World of Outlaws portion of Gold Cup Race of Champions, and Croft would get off to a tough start having engine woes early as his team would then go to work for time trials.

Ending up 28thfastest, Croft would then be forced into the semi where more issues hindered him as he finished 12th.

Looking for a better run on Saturday, Croft would get timed in 20thfastest, and it would line him up seventh in his heat. Making a couple of nice moves in heat race action, Croft would finish fifth and punch his ticket into the 66thAnnual Gold Cup Race of Champions feature event.

The feature event would not go as planned as Croft would be forced off the racing surface and back to his pit as he finished 24th.

“Thanks to my guys for working hard all week long even though things didn’t go our way,” Croft said. “Hopefully we can get things ironed out and be strong on Wednesday night.”

Willie Croft Racing would like to thank Holey Smokes BBQ, ButlerBuilt , Brown and Miller, FK Rod Ends, Factory Kahne, Schoenfeld, Team Simpson, Stilo, Smith Precision Products, Kaeding Performance, AL Drivelines, XYZ, Vortex Wings, Amerikote, DoTerra and GUTS for their support in 2019.
