PETERSEN MEDIA- With a scheduling conflict only allowing himself to race on Friday night, Willie Croft made the most of it, as he picked up another exciting second place finish, mirroring his second place finish from one week ago at the Petaluma Speedway, during he opening night of the Fall Nationals.

“It was a fun race, and I am happy with how we ran, and I am really happy to see Jonathan Allard in victory lane, this is a pretty special weekend for him and his family,” Croft said.

With 48 cars in the house for the Friday night show, Croft timed his Holey Smokes BBQ/Christian Stover Foundation/ButlerBuilt backed No. 29 machine in second fastest, before storming to second in his heat race.

Qualifying for the dash, the Sacramento, CA driver went from seventh to fifth, putting his Brown and Miller/FK Rod Ends/Hinchman Indy machine in the third row of the feature event.

After a lap three caution, Croft used the restart to jump into the third spot as he chased after race leader, Jonathan Allard, and second running Rico Abreu for eight laps, until Abreu slowed under caution on the 11th lap with a flat right rear.

A quick four lap run saw Allard pull away from Croft, but a restart on the 15th lap saw the duo thrill the crowd as they raced side by side for two laps, until the caution again waived on the 17th lap.

On what would ultimately be the race’s final restart, Croft would bobble just a little on the restart, letting Allard have some breathing room, but he quickly erased the gap, as he pounded the high-side of the speedway, in hot pursuit.

As the white flag waived, Croft gave it all he had as he chased after Allard, but he came up just short, as he crossed the stripe with a very strong second place finish.

“This was my Fall Nationals, and I was pumped to finish second. It was a tribute race to Stephen Allard, and I am really glad we had a great showing. We all miss Stephen Allard dearly, and it’s cool to run well in his honor,” Croft said after the race.
