PETERSEN MEDIA- With weather playing a factor in Central California over the weekend, Willie Croft stayed busy. After finishing 14th with the World of Outlaws on Friday night in Tulare, CA, Croft and crew headed north following the show and then proceeded to finish third during the Silver Cup on Saturday night in Chico, CA.

“It has been tough to get races in so far, but we saw an opportunity and took full advantage of it,” Willie Croft said. “I have to thank my guys for working their butts off to get our tires changed over and a 360ci engine in after running with the World of Outlaws on Friday so we could run the Silver Cup on Saturday.”

Croft got his weekend started with ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt’ in Tulare, CA on Friday night as he timed the Holey Smokes BBQ/ButlerBuilt/Brown and Miller backed No. 29 entry in 11th quickest in his time trial group.

Gridding the field from sixth in his heat race, Croft would battle with Paul McMahan for the final transfer spot into the feature event. With the track narrow in heat race action, Croft would be unable to get the spot from McMahan and he would find himself in the second row of the semi.

Getting off to a great start in the Last Chance Showdown, Croft would race his way to the win, which kept his night alive and advanced him into the 35-lap feature event.

Lining up in the 21st starting position by way of his LCS victory, Croft would take a liking to the racy Thunderbowl Raceway that was on display in the feature event. Able to make some moves on the tricky 1/3 mile bullring, Croft would race his way up to take the checkered flag in the 14th position.

Making the trip north to Chico, CA on Saturday, Croft quickly made his presence known as he earned quick time honors aboard the FK Rod Ends/Hinchman Indy/Factory Kahne backed entry.

Taking the green flag for his heat race in the second row, the Roseville, CA driver would flex his muscles as he raced his way to the win and earned a spot in the nightly redraw.

Having a bit of bad luck with the draw, Croft would pull the seven pill, which placed him in the fourth row for the impending 30-lap affair.

On the extremely racy Silver Dollar Speedway surface that was presented to the drivers, Croft was able to work his way forward after a couple of early stoppages.

Racing his way into fourth, things would get interesting in the closing laps. A late yellow set up a three lap dash to the finish, and Croft would take advantage of a couple of late miscues in front of him as he surged to third with the checkered flag in the air.

“Friday night it was nice to move forward in the feature and have some good speed with our 410,” Croft said. “Saturday night was our first 360ci race of the year and it went really well I thought. Again, really have to thank Wayne and Eric for all of their hard work.”

Willie Croft Racing would like to thank Holey Smokes BBQ, ButlerBuilt , Brown and Miller, FK Rod Ends, Hinchman Indy, Factory Kahne, Schoenfeld, Simpson Race Prodcuts, Smith Precision Products, Kaeding Performance, AL Drivelines, XYZ, Vortex Wings, Amerikote, and GUTS for their support in 2018.
