Willie Croft Third With Dale Miller Motorsports at Adobe Cup

PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting the call to pilot the potent Dale Miller Motorsports No. 4SA over the weekend in Petaluma, CA for the Adobe Cup, Willie Croft put the potent entry back on the SCCT podium as he scored a third-place finish in the 35-lapper.

“I thought we had a good car all night long,” Willie Croft said. “The track was fast all night long, and we put ourselves in a good spot to run up front.”

24 cars made the trip to Petaluma Speedway for the 12th running of the Adobe Cup, and Croft timed the Thompson’s Buick-GMC/Thompson’s Jeep-Ram/Dale Miller Septic Inc. backed No. 4SA in fastest in his qualifying flight.

Lining up in the second row of the fourth heat, the Colfax, CA driver jumped into third when the race came to life. In the fast paced 10-lapper, Croft held on to third and locked himself into the High Sierra Industries Dash where he lined up in the seventh starting position.

Despite the track being tricky to pass on with everyone in clean air, Croft improved his feature event starting position by one row as he worked his way forward and tallied a fifth-place finish.

Taking the green flag from the fifth starting position in the 35-lap Adobe Cup feature event, Croft ran in fifth as the first red flag of the night flew on the first lap.

Back underway, Croft continued to run in fifth as passing up front was tough as the lead pack quickly found the back of the field on the lightning-fast Petaluma gumbo.

A caution on the 16th lap saw Croft slip back to sixth on the ensuring restart, but a wild set of events on the 21st lap propelled him into third.

Occupying the final spot on the podium in the closing laps, Croft moved into second as the white flag waived, but in a drag race to the checkered, he lost the runner up position and settled for a third-place finish.

“It was a tricky track, especially when the leaders were all about the same speed,” Croft added. “Dale worked hard all night, and I am happy to get him back on the podium where his car belongs.”
