PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to action with the King of the West Series on Saturday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway, Willie Croft had a great night that resulted in him finishing in the third position.
“We had really good speed all night, and it was a lot of fun on Saturday night, and I am happy to grab a podium finish,” Willie Croft said.
34 cars packed into the pit area on Saturday night for the 3rd Annual David Tarter Memorial, and Croft bested them all during time trials as he picked up his fifth fast time award of the 2015 season.
An entertaining heat race between himself and Tyler Walker saw Croft finish in the second spot, but he would safely move into the night’s dash. Lining up in the second row of the dash, Croft would work his way into position to take the lead but as he did contact ensued and his machine would get into the wall, and his dash would come to a close.
Lining up for the feature in the seventh spot, Croft would creep towards the Top-Five as the caution flew on the fourth lap. The restart would see Croft use the low side of the speedway to storm into the fourth spot as he then began working on Kyle Hirst for the third position.
In dense traffic, Croft would continue to go after the third spot as he moved his machine up to the cushion on the slicked off racing surface. As Croft continued to go after Hirst, he would feel pressure from fifth running Carson Macedo as the race reached the halfway point.
With Macedo getting spot on the 20th lap, the caution would fly on the 21st lap and the field would bunch back up. When the action resumed, Croft would go after Macedo, as Croft looked to take over the second position.
A restart on the 28th lap saw Croft surge into the second spot as he began to chase after the race leader, as he continued to work the Silver Dollar Speedway cushion.
Getting a little tight in the cushion, Croft would feel pressure from Tyler Walker for the second position as the duo battled for four laps.
The race’s final caution flew on the 32nd lap and the ensuing restart saw Croft get tight in the cushion, and he would slip to the third spot. In the closing laps the Top-Three ran wheel to wheel going for the win, and with the checkered flag in the air, Croft would cross the stripe with a third place finish.
“Congrats to Stidham on the win, he was really fast,” Croft added. “We had a really good car, and I am hoping this run spring boards us moving forward. I really have to thank my guys for continuing to work hard, and a huge thanks to my sponsors for continuing to support us.”
Croft was also in action on Friday night during the weekly point show at the Silver Dollar Speedway where he would time in second fastest. After changing a power plant following time trials, Croft would miss his heat race and would line up in the fifth row for the feature event.
With a storm blowing through the Chico, CA area prior to the feature event, track prep crew worked diligently to get the track in racing condition.
With the track really holding moisture, it would produce a fast surface and passing would come tough on this night. From his ninth starting position, “Double Down’ would finish in the sixth spot.
Willie Croft Racing would like to thank Holey Smokes BBQ, ButlerBuilt , Brown and Miller, FK Rod Ends, Hinchman Indy, Schoenfeld, K&N, Smith Precision Products, Kaeding Performance, Dan Olson Products, Vortex Wings, Amerikote, and GUTS for their support in 2015.
