PETERSEN MEDIA- Though he was not pleased with the way he timed in, Shawn Wright was able to use patience on Saturday night, as he worked from his 21st starting spot to score a 12th place finish with the King of the West Series at the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA.
“The track was pretty rough and heavy, really unlike Tulare, so we were able to keep our nose clean and work up through the field,” Wright said.
Wright did not get his night off to the start he was looking for, as he timed the Wright Process System/A.R.T./Wilwood backed No. 99 machine in 23rd quickest.
“We were not even close to timing in well, and that is an area that I would really like to improve on,” Wright would add.
Finishing eighth in his heat race, Wright would line the Hixco/Wesmar Racing Engines/Super Shox backed machine up in the 11th row of the feature event.
With the early goings of the feature event marred by stoppages and crashes, Wright was able to keep his nose clean, and stay out of harms way, as he picked up spots, and avoided carnage.
Near the halfway point of the race, cars piled up in front of him, and with nowhere to go, Wright would spin his machine out, but he would keep it powered, and drive from the scene, and keep his spot in line.
The final half of the race would see the Lodi, CA native turned Tulare, CA resident continue to run a conservative race, as he ended his night with a 12th place finish.
“It was a night where it paid off to not push the issue” Wright would add. “Usually from the back of the pack you tend to get caught up in a mess, and fortunately we were able to get through all of it, and work our way forward.”
