Tanner Carrick 14th at Hangtown 100
PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to the seat of a Keith Kunz Midget on Saturday afternoon for the Hangtown 100, Tanner Carrick had a great night going until a late miscue knocked him out of the Top-5 and relegated him to a 14th place finish.
“It felt great to be back in a KKM car on Saturday, and we really had a good car,” Tanner Carrick said. “Unfortunately when I went to make a move for fourth, I hit a rut wrong and instead of chasing the car up the track and causing I wreck I spun to a stop.”
With 31 cars checked into Placerville Speedway on Saturday night for the highly anticipated Hangtown 100 event, Carrick went out very late in the qualifying session and timed the Toyota backed No. 98 entry in 10th fastest in time trials.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Lincoln, CA driver got a good start as he quickly jumped into third. With the track staying extremely fast on Saturday with rain shower leading up to the event, Carrick settled into third and locked himself into the 100-lap feature event as he secured the 13th starting position.
On a track that continued to have a ton of speed in it as well as a little character in both sets of corners, Carrick was patient as he worked his way forward.
Wasting no time getting into the Top-10, Carrick found himself battling with the likes of Shane Golobic and Steven Snyder as he looked for a spot inside the Top-5 during the 100-lap affair.
Continuing to keep his entry near the front as the race wound down, Carrick looked to make a move to get under Snyder for 4th on the 93rd lap, but he clipped a rut and brought his machine to a stop.
“I just hit the rut wrong,” Carrick said. “If I chased the car up the track I would have taken both of us out, so I did what I could to get it spun to a stop,” Carrick said. “It wasn’t the ideal way to finish, but I was really happy with how the car felt all night.”
Able to restart, Carrick ended up pick up a few positions as he took the checkered flag with a 14th place finish.
Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, California Waterfowl, Interstate Oil, D.R. Horton, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Hanson Truss, TC Guide Service, Eddie’s Lincoln Auto Body, Simpson Strong-Tie, A&A Concrete Supply, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support.
