Colby Copeland and C&M Motorsports 5th at Placerville Speedway’s Season Opener
PETERSEN MEDIA- Climbing back aboard the C&M Motorsports No. 7C on Saturday night, Colby Copeland and team had a solid night on ‘the hill’ as the Roseville, CA driver picked up a fifth-place finish in the feature event.
“Once we got on track after qualifying it was really a solid night for the C&M Motorsports team,” Colby Copeland said. “We were just a little off, but Cody, and Bobby, and John went to work and put a really racy car under me for the rest of the night.”
With 23 cars on hand for the track’s season opening event, Copeland timed the NOS Energy Drink/Lund Construction/Anrak backed No. 7C entry in 16th fastest in time trials.
Lining up sixth in his heat race, Copeland had a strong car under him, but the track conditions didn’t allow for much passing. Able to gain a position and finish fifth, Copeland locked directly into the 30-lap feature event where he took the green flag from the 13th starting position.
Despite the unseasonable warm temperatures that blanketed the area, the race track still held a ton of moisture all night long and created for a lightning-fast surface.
In the opening stanzas of the ‘A’, Copeland was a little ‘tight’ with a full fuel load, but as the lacks clicked off, he was able to start working his way forward. Racing his way into eighth at the race’s halfway point.
Running in eighth for 10-laps, Copeland moved into seventh with five laps to go, and on the 28th lap he took full advantage of a couple of cars washing up the track in front of him and shot into fifth.
Holding the position for the final two laps, Copeland capped the night off with a fifth-place finish.
“I am just really thankful for the opportunity to run with C&M Motorsports, and each night out has been a lot of fun,” Copeland added.
