PETERSEN MEDIA: Making his season debut in his Decaires Motorsports owned No. 94 on Saturday night, Bubba DeCaires rebounded from a tough qualifying effort and charged from his 20th starting position to finish seventh at Placerville Speedway.

“I was just way too tight in time trials, and it killed us,” DeCaires said. “We made a huge improvement for the heat race, but it was so hard to pass and that put us in the ‘B’,”.

With 29 cars checked into the pit area on Saturday night, DeCaires kicked his night off by timing the Morrison Concrete/Max Sells powered by Red Leaf Realty/High Sierra Industries backed No. 94 in 26th fastest.

Finding himself in an early hole, DeCaires went to work on his car prior to heat race action. With the track still showing signs of heavy rain from the previous week, passing was at a premium early. Finishing sixth in his heat, the Elk Grove, CA runner was forced into the ‘B’ where he lined up seventh and needed to get into the top-four to keep his night alive.

From the inside of the fourth row, DeCaires was able to carefully navigate his way forward. Working into fourth, DeCaires secured the final transfer into the feature event where he lined up in the 20th starting position.

When the Ed Entz green flag was displayed to the field, DeCaires began to work his way forward as he took over 18th, before using a lap three restart to work his way up into the 13th position.

Settling into 13th as the race got into a rhythm, DeCaires took over 12th at the halfway point. With laps starting to wind down, DeCaires continued to use restarts to his advantage as a restart on lap 22 saw him take over 11th before he took the ninth position with just five laps left in the feature.

One final restart on the 26th lap allowed DeCaires to make up more ground as he powered into 7th on lap 27 which is where he went on to close out the night.

“I was happy with the changes we made, and once we got into the feature I just focused on making clean laps and staying out of trouble and that is exactly what we did,” DeCaires added. “I am really excited for the season ahead, and I am thankful that we have some great people supporting us to make this schedule possible.”

DeCaires would like to thank Morrison Concrete, Max Sells powered by Red Leaf Realty, High Sierra Industries, JLC Performance, Tiner Hirst Enterprise, Wion’s Body Shop, and QuickCar Racing Products for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-1, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-1

ON TAP: DeCaires will now begin his season in the Northwest as he kicks off the Skagit Speedway season on Saturday night in Alger, WA.
