Braden Chiaramonte Dominates Nor*Cal Posse Shootout

PETERSEN MEDIA: Spending his weekend in Placerville, CA running both a winged and non-winged sprint car, Braden Chiaramonte showed out as he ran second in non-winged action on Friday night, and won Saturday’s winged feature in dominating fashion.

“Friday night, I felt really good in the non-winged car, and running second is always fun, but it was cool to see Max Mittry win in the Chase Johnson car,” Chiaramonte said. “Saturday night, I actually felt way better all night in our non-winged car, but after getting collected in a wreck, our winged car was really good and it was great to pick up the win.”

After setting a non-winged track record in time trials on Saturday night, Chiaramonte scored a second-place finish in his heat race and found himself in the fifth starting position for the 30-lap feature event.

On a tricky Placerville Speedway surface, Chiaramonte settled into the fifth spot as the race got underway. Amidst a torrid green flag run, contact between the second and third place cars left Chiaramonte with nowhere to go as David Gasper sat sideways in turns one and two.  Absorbing  heavy contact,  the El Cajon, CA driver’s race came to an end.

Equally as fast in his winged car on this night, Chiaramonte timed in third fastest in qualifying time trials before his third-place finish in his heat race locked him into the Sierra Foothills Wine Services Dash.

Running second in the Dash to Justyn Cox, Chiaramonte was on the front row of the 30-lap feature event. When the race’s initial green flag flew, Chiaramonte put his right rear on the cushion and blasted into the early lead only to see the yellow flag fly as he came around to complete the first lap.

The second start saw Cox slide up in front of Chiaramonte as they raced into turns one and two, but the youngster was able to turn down under Cox and power into the lead as they raced into turns three and four.

That was his race winning move.

Out in front, Chiaramonte flexed his muscle as he pounded the cushion lap after lap. A very good car underneath him allowed him to peel off the cushion when in traffic, but on this night, he was never challenged for the top spot.

Leading all 30-laps, Chiaramonte pocketed his first win of the season and took home the $8000 that was up for grabs to the NorCal Posse Shootout Champion.

Friday night the weekend came to life and Chiaramonte had great speed in his non-winged entry. In the feature event, he was patiently able to work his way into second and then slowly reel in race long leader, Max Mittry.

A very entertaining final five laps saw Chiaramonte and Mittry exchange the top spot lap after lap, but in the end Chiaramonte settled for a runner up finish.

Friday night winged action did not go nearly as well as he recorded a 16th place finish.

“It was a bummer that we got taken out of Saturday’s non winged race how we did, and I didn’t know how good our winged car would be,” Chiaramonte noted. “Big thanks to everyone who was helping us this weekend, because they gave me a great car in the feature and I am very proud to get this win.”
