Tanner Carrick Scores 4 Top-10’s During Busy Louie Vermeil Classic Weekend
PETERSEN MEDIA: The only driver to do double duty at the Louie Vermeil Classic, Tanner Carrick had a solid weekend in both cars as he picked up four Top-10 finishes in total.
“I was really happy with how our weekend went in both cars,” Tanner Carrick said. “We were fast all weekend long and we were pretty consistent.”
Opening the weekend up on Saturday night, Carrick timed his winged car in seventh fastest before a ninth quick effort in USAC/CRA competition.
Picking up third place finishes in both heat races, Carrick then lined up sixth in the winged feature, and 11th in the non-wing feature event.
Following extensive track prep prior to the winged feature, Carrick was set for the 25-lapper as he took the green flag from the outside of the third row. When the race went green on the fast surface, Carrick slipped back to seventh in the opening set of corners.
From that moment, the field settled into a fast pace and got strung out as passing became extremely difficult. With the feature going nonstop, Carrick closed his first feature of the weekend out with a seventh-place finish.
Just minutes after the conclusion of the winged race, the Lincoln, CA driver was strapped into the non-winged car as he was set to take the green flag from the sixth row for the 30-lap finale.
As the action came to life, Carrick was able to make some moves as he quickly worked his way into the Top-10. Getting into 10th, Carrick continued to battle as he raced his way to an eighth-place finish when the checkered flag was displayed to the field.
Back for another round of double-duty action on Sunday, Carrick got the night underway by timing the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83T winged car in fifth fastest in time trials before timing in 16th fastest with USAC/CRA.
Finishing fourth in his winged heat, and seventh in the non-winged heat, Carrick found himself lining up seventh in the 25-lap winged feature and 13th in the 30-lap USAC/CRA feature.
For the second night in a row, the winged race would go off without a hitch as the field ripped off 25-laps consecutively. With passing tough as the field again strung out quickly, Carrick settled into seventh at the drop of the green and maintained his position for the rest of the race. Finishing seventh, Carrick then turned his attention to USAC action as he was slated to roll off from the 13th starting position.
With the track starting to widen out at the conclusion of the winged race, it created a racy surface in the non-winged feature as Carrick was able to slowly work his way towards the Top-10.
A couple of restarts worked in Carrick’s favor as he was able to work his way into seventh in the non-winged feature, where he went on to finish and close out a very consistent weekend.
