Dylan Bloomfield Takes Positives Out of Tough Trophy Cup with PHR Racing

PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to the seat of the Pacific Highway Rentals Racing No. 92 over the weekend for the 32ndAnnual Trophy Cup, Dylan Bloomfield was able to take some positives out of a weekend that was tough to him.

“Trophy Cup was a really tough weekend of racing for me and the PHR team,” Dylan Bloomfield said. “I felt like we were really fast, but we had a lot of things not go our way and some bad luck really hinder us. I am extremely thankful to the entire team for the opportunity, and really appreciate all their hard work all weekend.”

The prestigious event kicked off on Thursday night where Bloomfield timed the PHR/Wilkie Masonry/Western Traffic Supply backed No. 92 in 12th fastest in time trials with 35 cars checked in for the weekend.

On a very fast and hooked up track, Bloomfield finished sixth in his heat race, which put him on the pole of the 20-lap ‘B’ Main event.

With the win, Bloomfield moved into the opening night 30-lapper where he rolled off the starting grid from the 19thstarting position.

Slipping back to 20th when the green lights flashed, Bloomfield settled in on the lighting fast surface. On the eighth lap, a car got upside down in front of him and with nowhere to go he got a piece of the action and had damage to his top wing.

Making the trip to the work area, the PHR team was able to make repairs, and the Oakley, CA driver was able to restart from the tail. Doing what he could on a very tough surface, Bloomfield worked his way forward to a 17th place finish when the race finally drew to a close.

Back in action on Friday night, Bloomfield timed in 24th fastest in time trials and found himself in the second row of his heat race. Jumping into the lead when the race came to life, Bloomfield looked very good out front as he was on his way to a strong points effort.

However, coming to the white flag Bloomfield endured a mechanical issue and he slowed and was credited with a seventh-place finish.

With the mechanical issue ending his heat early, Bloomfield moved into the ‘B’ where he lined up 10th, and needed to get to the top-six to transfer into the ‘A’.

On a much wider racing surface compared to Thursday, Bloomfield had his elbows up as he worked his way into a transfer position. Looking very solid, Bloomfield again found himself in a bad position as a flipping car ripped his top wing off and forced him to head to the work area for repairs.

Able to make the necessary changes, he restarted and again worked his way back towards a transfer. Enduring contact from a flipping car for a second time in the ‘B’, Bloomfield was down but not out. Able to again make repairs, he restarted and for the third time was able to race into a transfer spot and successfully lock into the Friday night feature event.

Lining up 24th in the feature, Bloomfield was simply hoping to have an event-free race with how the rest of the night had gone. With a very strong car under him on a very wide track, he was able to work his way forward and pass cars in a hurry.

Inching his way towards the Top-10, Bloomfield capped off an impressive run as he closed the night out with a 12th place finish.

Checking back in on Saturday night, Bloomfield was sporty on the slick surface as he raced his way to a heat race win, and then after a spirited battle in the ‘B’ picked up the win in that race too to lock into the Trophy Cup feature event.

Lining up sixth in the feature event with the unique Trophy Cup format, Bloomfield and company set their sights on the $10,000-to-win finale.

Moving into third when the race came to life, Bloomfield was then into second on the second lap as he chased after early leader, Robbie Price. With Price setting a strong pace out front, Bloomfield was able to reel him in amidst traffic

Making a bid for the race lead on the 12th lap, Price’s counter punch resulted in contact between the two with Bloomfield coming to a stop on the exit of turn four and being forced back to 20th.

Able to restart, Bloomfield would get back into the Top 15 before coming into contact with a spinning car on the 24th lap and bringing his weekend to a close with a damaged front end.

“Brian, Kelly, Eastan, Ed, and my dad really had a strong car under me all weekend long,” Bloomfield said. “It was really cool to work with a high caliber team all weekend, I just wish we had better results to show for it. Again, a big thanks to Paul for the opportunity, as well as Mark for helping us with fuel all weekend and Garner Heat Treat for taking care of the wings we tore up.”

PHR Racing would like to thank Pacific Highway Rentals, Wilkie Masonry, Western Traffic Supply, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, FK Rod Ends, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, MCK, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.
