Kerry Madsen and VMR Score Top-10 at I-55; Knoxville World of Outlaws Weekend Awaits

PETERSEN MEDIA- Two weekends into the 2025 season, Kerry Madsen and his VMR team are pleased with their car speed and the pace they have, despite not quite having the results they are after. This weekend, the team is excited to be back home at Knoxville Raceway as the 2025 season opens up at the famed track with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series in town.

“We have had some really good speed in our first three races, and hopefully getting back to Knoxville this weekend allows us to get some good finishes under our belt,” Kerry Madsen said. “We had solid speed at I-55 and was pleased with some of the things we were able to do.”

With a loaded field on cars on hand for the World of Outlaws spring event at the I-55 Raceway in Pevely, MO, Madsen got off to a solid start on Friday night as he timed the Elite Installations/TK Concrete/Maxim Trucking entry in ninth fastest in his flight after going out nearly last.

Lining up fifth in his heat race, an early miscue for ‘The Mad Man’ saw him spin to a stop and restart the heat from the tail end of the field. On an extremely racy surface, Madsen had his elbows up and powered his way all the way back to fourth to lock into the opening night feature event.

Taking the green flag from the 14th starting position in the 40-lap feature event, Madsen felt a little off in his Zip Bonds/Pave Grade/CLK Landscaping backed entry as he slipping back in the 17th position.

Continuing to search around the high banked facility looking for a way to move forward, Madsen got collected in a tangle on the 31st lap and it brought his Friday night to an end.

Back in action on Saturday night, another tough draw for time trials saw Madsen and the VMR team hit the track late in their flight, but the St Marys, NSW driver was able to again throw down a great lap as he ended up seventh quickest.

Lining up in the second row of his heat, Madsen moved into second when the race came to life and looked to be well on his way to a Dash berth until a late caution bunched the field up. A double file restart didn’t got the way he needed and a third place finish in heat race action put the former Iron Man 55 Champion in the fifth row of the 40-lapper.

As the feature came to life, the surface only held up for a few laps as rubber soon began to go down on the speedway creating a very narrow racing surface. Settling into 10th, Madsen hung onto the spot to score the team’s first Top-10 of the season.

“Friday we were off in the feature, but it was something to learn from,” Madsen added. “The guys have really been on it, and despite some bad luck we have had some great cars and hopefully we can have a good showing on the half mile this week.”

Vermeer-Madsen Racing would like to thank Elite Installations, TK Concrete, Maxim Trucking, Zip Bonds, Pave Grade, CLK Landscaping, Jersey Freeze, Pinnacle Graphics, CS Design, Maxima Oil, DMI, BR Motorsports, and King Racing Products for their support in 2025.
