Tony Gomes Charges To 11th at NorCal Posse Shootout
PETERSEN MEDIA- With a part failure hindering him Friday night, Tony Gomes and C&M Motorsports bounced back well on Saturday night as the Modesto, CA driver charged to an 11th place finish in the Nor Cal Posse Shootout feature event.
“We really had a speed all weekend long, but unfortunately we don’t have a ton to show for it,” Gomes said. “We timed fastest on Friday, but had a part fail while running up front early in the feature. Saturday night we didn’t qualify as good, but we raced well and battled to an 11th place finish.”
With 39 cars on hand to open the two-night extravaganza up on Friday night, Gomes stopped the clock with the fastest lap of the night in his qualifying flight aboard the Lund Construction/Anrak/Sam Rhodes backed No. 7c entry.
Lining up fourth in his heat race, Gomes simply needed to transfer into the ‘A’ to qualify for the Dash and did just that by pocketing a third place finish.
Advancing to a fourth place finish in the Dash after pulling the ‘six’, Gomes was off and running when the feature event came to life. Jumping into third, Gomes looked strong in the opening stanzas until an early red flag halted the action while he was running in fourth.
When the field fired back off, Gomes lost oil pressure and made the right turn off of two to head back to the pit area and ended his night early.
Luckily the culprit ended up only being a faulty oil pressure gauge so after a simple fix the C&M Motorsports team was back in action for Saturday night’s finale.
Timing in 10th fastest in his qualifying flight, Gomes lined up fifth in his heat race.
Finishing fifth, the Modesto, CA driver was locked into the feature event though he had a tough road ahead as he lined up in the 20th starting position.
Following a track rework prior to the feature event, Gomes was able to work his way forward amidst a torrid 27-lap green flag run that brought the race to life. Getting near the Top-10 on the two late restarts, Gomes came up just short of a Top-10 as he ended up 11th when the race came to a close.
“Saturday night I tried everything I could to make up ground, and I was able to make up quite a few positions after starting in the back, but it still wasn’t what we had hoped for,” Gomes added. “Super thankful that Cody and Mandi continue to support me and have me drive for them, and I’m also thankful for the effort that Cody, John, Bobby, and Cody Cook put forward in the pits all weekend long.”
The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Lund Construction, Anrak, Sam Rhodes, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, Kings Meats, American Paving Systems, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
ON TAP: C&M Motorsports and Gomes are right back to it this Saturday night in Placerville, CA.
