Sean Becker Hard Charges at Silver Dollar Fair Race
PETERSEN MEDIA- Competing with Standley Motorsports over the weekend, Sean Becker dazzled the crowd on Saturday night as he charged from 24th to 5th in the feature event after mechanical issues during his preliminary night buried him in Saturday night points.
“I always enjoy racing at the Silver Dollar Fair, and I am glad we had a lot of speed this year,” Sean Becker said. “Kyle Standley works hard with the track crew, so I am extremely thankful we were still able to race all weekend long together.”
Becker hit the track on Thursday night as he timed the No. 54x machine in ninth fastest in qualifying time trials. Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Becker finished third and found himself on the front row of the opening night feature event.
When the opening night feature event came to life, Becker mashed the gas and jumped out to the early lead. Very strong out front, Becker was in control until a caution just past the halfway point of the race bunched the field back up.
The next restart saw Becker lose the top spot before falling back to third on the 20th lap. With the track changing, Becker was able to change his lane and settle into the third until fuel pickup issues on the 24th lap forced him to retire from the race and put him in a hole for Saturday night heat races.
Lining up sixth in his heat race on Saturday night after the DNF on Thursday, Becker’s fifth place finish put him in the ‘B’ for one final opportunity to lock into the ‘Fair Race’ feature event.
Starting sixth in the ‘B’, Becker was able to obtain the fourth and final transfer spot into the feature event as he took the green flag from the 24th starting position.
On a surface that many were unable to make any progress on, Becker was the exception to the rule. Racing into ninth on the 9th lap, Becker continued to work his way forward and use restarts to his advantage.
Moving into seventh at the race’s halfway point, Becker move into sixth on the 22nd lap. Making his first appearance into the top-five on the 27th lap, Becker slipped back to sixth a lap later before moving back into fifth for good on the 29th lap.
Fresh off the 24th-5th charge, Becker and team made their way to Marysville Raceway on Sunday night for the Mel and Marlyn Hall Memorial which was sanctioned by the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.
Going out early in time trials, Becker ended up fourth in his qualifying flight which put him on the front row of his heat race.
Finishing second in his heat race, Becker missed out on a Dash berth, but was solidly in the feature event as he was locked into the 10th starting position.
On a very racy Marysville Raceway surface, ‘The Shark’ again was able to race his way forward as he chased after another Top-5. When the 35-lapper drew to a close, Becker capped a busy weekend off with a 6th place finish.
BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-10, Wins-0, Top 5’s- 3, Top-10’s- 7
