Tony Gomes 12th at Davy Thomas Memorial

PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to the seat of the C&M Motorsports No. 7c on Friday night in Placerville, CA, Tony Gomes rallied from a mid race incident to score a 12th place finish during the Davy Thomas Memorial Feature event.

“Our night didn’t go as we had hoped, but it wasn’t from lack of effort from my guys and myself,” Tony Gomes said. “We had a good start in the feature but we ended up getting collected in a bit of a mess and had to come from the back.”

With 45 cars checked into the pit area on Friday night, Gomes went out late in his qualifying flight and timed the Anrak/Sam Rhodes/MatriScope backed No. 7c entry in ninth fastest in his qualifying flight.

Lining up in the third row of his heat race, the Modesto, CA driver got a good jump as he worked his way into third. While it didn’t put him into the pole shuffle on this night, it improved his starting position in the feature greatly as he rolled off the starting grid from the 13th position.

When the 35-lapper came to life, Gomes went to work on the slick surface as he quickly got into the Top-10. Trouble on the 11th marker saw Gomes get collected as cars tangled in front of him and it resulted in him restarting back in 18th.

Slipping back to 20th on the restart, Gomes settled into the race and got his elbows up as he worked his way back forward.

Using a couple of late restarts to his advantage, Gomes was able to pocket a 12th place finish when the Ed Entz checkered flag was displayed to the field.

“We really had a great car in the feature event, and I wish we had a better finish to show for it,” Gomes said. “It was a really cool race in honor of a great guy. Thanks to Cody and Mandi for the continued support, and a big shoutout to Cody, Bobby, and John for the hard work on a brutally hot day.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Lund Construction, Anrak, Sam Rhodes, MatriScope, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, Kings Meats, American Paving Systems, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
