Justin Sanders and Dale Miller Motorsports 2nd at Placerville Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA- Fresh off of a win together over the Memorial Day Weekend, Justin Sanders and Dale Miller Motorsports were in the hunt again on Friday night as they finished second at the Davy Thomas Memorial at Placerville Speedway.

“We had a really good car late in the feature, and it was shaping up to get really good up front but an untimely caution took us out of traffic, and I didn’t run as clean of laps as I needed for a shot at the win on the restart,” Justin Sanders said.

A total of 45 cars checked into the pit area at Placerville Speedway on Friday night for the Davy Thomas Memorial, and Sanders got the night kicked off by timing the Anrak/Thompson’s Family of Dealerships/Yuba Sutter Aviation backed No. 4SA in fastest in his qualifying flight.

Going from fourth to third in his heat race, Sanders remained eligible for the pole shuffle where a seventh place finish put him in the fourth row to start the 35-lap feature event that was ran under Sprint Car Challenge Tour sanction.

Working into fifth when the green flag dropped, Sanders took a liking to the slick surface as hey powered his way into fourth on the fifth lap.

Running in 4th for the next 12 laps, a lap 16 restart saw the Aromas, CA driver move into third briefly before again dropping back to fourth. As the laps clicked off, Sanders got stronger as he moved into third on the 26th lap, before taking over second on lap 30 as he reeled in the race leader.

Amidst thick traffic, Sanders closed in on Andy Forsberg’s rear bumper but just as the action picked up, the caution flew and took the leaders out of traffic.

Lining up on the rear bumper for a shootout to the finish, Sanders didn’t quite hit the cushion how he needed to and it let Forsberg sneak away as he held off Shane Golobic to finish second at the stripe.

“Sometimes when you are chasing down the leader those late cautions help, but on Friday I really think it hurt us unfortunately,” Sanders said. “I needed to run two perfect laps on that restart and I just hit the curb wrong and threw my rhythm off for the final lap and a half.”
