Holmes Rebounds For SCCT Top-10 at Davy Thomas Memorial

PETERSEN MEDIA- Tanner Holmes and Tarlton Motorsports made their first starts of the season at Placerville Speedway over the weekend where Holmes charged from the back to finish eighth on Friday night at the Davy Thomas Memorial before a 14th place finish at Saturday’s Dave Bradway Jr Memorial.

“Placerville Speedway is probably one of the toughest tracks in California to get figured out, so it was good to get a lot of laps there over the weekend,” Tanner Holes said. “The guys made great adjustments on Friday night after a heat race fiasco that allowed us to charge forward, and on Saturday night I put us in a bit of a hole after qualifying and we were stuck in traffic each time we hit the track.”

Opening the weekend up in 360ci action on Friday night with the SCCT at the Davy Thomas Memorial, Holmes timed the Tarlton and Son Inc./American Rock and Rent/Executive Auto Sales backed No. 21 in seventh quickest in his flight amidst the 45 cars in the pit area.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, issues at the start of the race saw Holmes do everything but get upside down, which alluded to him finishing in ninth.

Forced into the ‘B’, the Jacksonville, OR driver led the field to green, and settled into second as the race came to life. Finishing in second, Holmes punched his ticket into the feature event where he took the green flag from the 22nd starting position.

As the action went green, Holmes had a very strong Drew Warner prepared car under him and began marching his way towards the front. Racing his way into 12th by the 11th lap, Holmes continue to climb. Getting into the Top-10 on the 21stmarker, he moved into ninth on the next lap, and one lap later he was up into eighth.

With a couple of stoppages halting the pace of the race, it did break Holmes’ rhythm though he did briefly make his way into seventh, before slipping back to eighth on the 31st lap, which is where he went on to finish.

Saturday night brough on NARC action as the field assembled in Placerville, CA for the annual Dave Bradway Jr Memorial.

With 32 cars on hand for the event, Holmes got the night underway by timing in 12th fastest in his qualifying flight, which put him behind the heat race inversion and in the third row of his heat race.

Finishing in the fifth and final transfer spot, Holmes took the green flag for the 40-lap feature event from the outside of the 10th row as he looked to match or better his Friday night charge.

Mired in traffic all race long, Holmes wasn’t quite able to mount as big of a charge as he did the night before. While he still went forward, he capped the night off with a 14th place finish.

“Saturday was definitely tougher to make up ground in the feature event, but we did still manage to go forward,” Holmes said. “I am excited to get back to Chico, CA this weekend with the team for one final weekend together for a few months.”
