Joel Myers Jr Nets Trio of Top-10’s at Super Dirt Cup
PETERSEN MEDIA: Reuniting with Willie Kahne to compete in the Jim Raper Super Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway, the team had a very solid week that featured top ten finishes in all three feature events, including a fifth place run during Friday’s preliminary night feature.
“We had a very solid week at Skagit Speedway, and it was great working with Willie and Kale Kahne with Dyllan helping as well,” Joel Myers Jr said. “We were in a good spot all week long and ended up with my best Dirt Cup finish.”
Timing in 17th fastest in Thursday night’s opening qualifying session, the Sebastopol, CA driver lined the Factory Kahne/Dirt Dudes Excavating/Durst backed No. 4 up in the third row of his heat race. Picking up a sixth-place finish after going to the back on the initial start, Myers Jr just narrowly missed out on the pole of the feature event as he then lined up 17th in the feature.
When the race went green, Myers Jr was able race his way forward and pick up valuable event points with each car he passed. Racing into the Top-10, Myers Jr got up to eighth by the time the checkered flag few on the opening night feature event.
Back to the track on Friday night looking to gather up more points before Saturday’s finale, Myers Jr timed in 12th fastest on this night and again lined up in the third row of his heat race.
With no issues on the start of the race on this night, the Sebastopol, CA driver worked his way forward and continued his strong Friday night by securing a third place finish and again locking directly into the feature event.
Gridding the field from the fourth row, Myers Jr was able to work into fifth on the fifth lap, and was up into fourth on the seventh lap where he ran until the 16th stanza.
Falling back to fifth, he was able to keep his mount inside the Top-5 as he took the checkered flag in fifth and sat 9thoverall in event points heading into Saturday night’s Super Dirt Cup finale.
Lining up on the front row of his Saturday night qualifier, Myers Jr simply needed to finish inside the Top-4 to transfer into the feature event. While a win would put him in the Dash, Myers Jr battled hard with Scott Bogucki but was unable to take the top spot from him. Finishing in second, Myers Jr secured the ninth starting position in the 40-lap Super Dirt Cup ‘A’.
The feature event didn’t see a ton of passing amidst the front runners as the track had a ton of speed in it. With a couple of lane choices, the leaders remained even in speeds no matter which line they used. Keep his car inside the Top-10 all race long, Myers Jr capped the busy weekend off with an eighth place finish.
“We were in a good spot all week long, and that is a testament to how well this team prepared, and how good the car was all week,” Myers Jr said. “Super thankful to Willie Kahne for the opportunity, and I look forward to hopefully racing with him again.”
