Second Place Run Highlights Busy Weekend for Tony Gomes

PETERSEN MEDIA- Though he wasn’t able to make it back to victory lane at Placerville Speedway over the weekend, Tony Gomes had a very solid weekend that put him right back in the thick of the Championship hunt.

“We weren’t able to get a win over the weekend but in the big picture it was a really good weekend with us having to really solid nights,” Tony Gomes said.

Friday night, the C&M Motorsports team came out on fire as Gomes kicked the night off by earning quick time honors aboard the Lund Construction/Anrak/Sam Rhodes backed No. 7c.

When his heat race came to life, Gomes continued to flex his muscles. Powering his way into the lead, Gomes went on to pick up the win which put him on the pole for the feature event.

Looking to score his second consecutive win at the track, Gomes hammered the throttle when the feature event went green. Leading the first half of the race, a mid race restart saw Gomes feel pressure form Shane Gomes. Able to answer the call and race back into the lead, Gomes caught a rut and it shot him over the edge of the track and he slipped back to fifth.

Settling back in, Gomes showcased a very strong car as he worked his way back into second where he ultimately finished.

Back in action on Saturday night, the Placerville Speedway triple crown event took its toll on the surface, and when time trials rolled around for the sprint cars, Gomes did what he could on the slick as he timed in seventh fastest in his group.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Modesto, CA driver worked his way to a second place finish and just narrowly missed out on the redraw. Lining up ninth in the feature event, a narrow surface made passing tricky in the ‘A’.

Working his way forward the best he could, Gomes closed the weekend out with a sixth place finish.

“We came into the weekend fourth in points, and we left the weekend second and just 11 points out of the lead,” Gomes said. “We don’t points race necessarily, but its good to be back in the hunt as we get into the heat of Summer. Thanks to Cody and Mandi for all of their hard work and support of the team, as well as Bobby, John, and Cody Cook for all of their help in the pits.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Lund Construction, Anrak, Sam Rhodes, MatriScope, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, Kings Meats, American Paving Systems, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
