Andy Forsberg 2nd at Mel and Marlyn Hall Memorial

PETERSEN MEDIA: A busy weekend of racing in Northern CA for Andy Forsberg and the PHR Racing team culminated with a charge to second on Sunday night in Marysville, CA with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.

“Though we had some bad luck with mechanical things in Chico on Thursday and Saturday, it was a pretty solid weekend for our team and I am glad we came away with a little to show for it with a charge to second on Sunday night,” Andy Forsberg said.

Spending the Memorial Day Weekend competed in Chico, CA and Marysville, CA, Forsberg and company got the weekend kicked off on Thursday night as racing took center stage at the Silver Dollar Fair.

Earning fast time honors in qualifications aboard the PHR/Meridian Cameras/Oroville Tax backed No. 92 on Thursday night, Forsberg went from sixth to fourth in heat race competition which put him in the third row to start the 30-lap opening night feature event.

When the race came to life, Forsberg powered into third as he chased after the lead duo for the opening 13 laps of the race. With a caution bunching the field back up, the ensuing restart saw the Auburn, CA driver slip back to fifth until he worked his way back into third on the 19th lap.

Working into third, Forsberg’s entry then came up lame as a throttle linkage failure saw his night end abruptly and ultimately put him in a hole for Saturday night with heats and features being lined up by points.

Lining up sixth in his Saturday night heat race, a fifth place finish was not enough to lock him into the feature event as he was forced into the ‘B’ where he took the green flag from the fourth starting position.

Abel to hold down third in the semi, Forsberg was locked into the feature event, however an issue coming to green ended his night again as he was scored 23rd.

Back in action on Sunday night as the scene shifted to Marysville, CA for the Mel and Marlyn Hall Memorial with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, Forsberg opened the action up by timing in 11th fastest in his qualifying flight.

Lining up behind the heat race inversion, Forsberg had his elbows up as he worked his way forward and ended up picking a second-place finish which put him right behind the dash cars in the feature event line up.

On a very racy Marysville Raceway surface, Forsberg was extremely strong from the fifth row as he carved his way through the field.

As the laps clicked off, Forsberg powered his way into the lead on the 21st lap and looked very strong out front until a caution with five to go bunched the field back up.

The ensuing restart saw Forsberg and Justin Sanders hook up in a thrilling battle as they exchanged the top spot for the final stanzas. With Sanders getting the better of him, Forsberg settled for a second-place finish when the checkered flag was shown to the field.

“The Hall Memorial is one that really means a lot to me, so I am happy we were able to put on a great show, I just wish we could have been one spot better,” Forsberg added. “Still, a really cool weekend overall and we are all looking forward to the Davy Thomas Memorial and the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial this weekend in Placerville, CA.”

Andy Forsberg and PHR Racing would like to thank Meridian Cameras, Pacific Highway Rentals, Oroville Tax, Wilkie Masonry, Western Traffic Supply, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, FK Rod Ends, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, MCK, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.
