Andy Forsberg Third at SCCT Season Opening Event
PETERSEN MEDIA: On the heels of winning the 2025 Placerville Speedway season opener, Andy Forsberg at the PHR Racing team were back in action at the foothills bullring on Saturday night to open the Sprint Car Challenge Tour campaign where they battled up front all night long before settling for a third-place finish in the feature event.
“We put ourselves in a great spot all night long,” Andy Forsberg said. “We were rolling pretty good in the feature and its really a tough field of cars when you go from 41 to 24 in a 35-lap main. We got into traffic a few times, but Shane Golobic made some better moves and we got beat.”
With 41 cars on hand to open the season with the series, Forsberg timed in third fastest in his qualifying flight which put him on the front row his heat race. Getting the jump when his heat came to life, the Auburn, CA driver was able to flex his muscles early as he powered to the win in the Meridian Cameras/Pacific Highway Rentals/Oroville Tax backed No. 92.
Making the redraw based on the win, Forsberg’s good fortune continued as he drew the one pill and took advantage of that front row spot to win the Dash and earn the pole for the 35-lap feature event.
On the slick Placerville Speedway surface, Forsberg got a great jump and quickly opened up a sizeable advantage as he left the likes of Shane Golobic and Tony Gomes in his wake.
Getting into traffic in just a few laps, it allowed Golobic to close in on him as the battle for the lead heated up only to a see a caution take the leaders out of traffic.
As the race continued on traffic came into play again and this times Golobic was able to snooker Forsberg as they played a high speed game of chess. Slipping back to second, Forsberg looked to be on his way to a runner up finish before Dominic Scelzi entered the fray in the closing laps.
Sliding up in front the reigning series champion, Forsberg slipped back to third where he finished out the night.
“It was an interesting feature, and it was a lot of run running with the likes of Shane Golobic and Dominic Scelzi,’ Forsberg added. “Scelzi ran a pretty crazy line that I have never ran up there so that created a fun battle with him in the final laps. Overall we will take the third place finish and look to get back up front this weekend back at Placerville.”
Andy Forsberg and PHR Racing would like to thank Meridian Cameras, Pacific Highway Rentals, Oroville Tax, Wilkie Masonry, Western Traffic Supply, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, FK Rod Ends, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, MCK, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.
