Ashton Torgerson 9th at First Kings Royal; Earns Rookie of the Year
PETERSEN MEDIA- Continuing a season of firsts in 2025, Ashton Torgerson and Shark Racing took part in the Arizona driver’s first Kings Royal where the team ended up with a ninth-place finish during Saturday night’s finale.
Having speed at Eldora Speedway earlier this season, Torgerson continued to run very well at the famed ½ mile as he qualified for all four feature events during the busy week of racing, but went on to save his best showing for last.
On the heels of a pair of 17th place finishes and a DNF, Torgerson and company were firing on all cylinders during Saturday’s crowned jewel event. Going out mid pack in time trials, Torgerson timed the Shark Racing No. 1a in 20thquick in time trials, and when the inversion was established, it put him on the front row of his heat race.
From the pole, Torgerson was hard on the throttle when the heat came to life, and jumped out to the early lead. Pacing the field from start to finish, Torgerson’s win not only put him in his first ever King’s Royal, but it lined him up in the third row for the 40-lap affair.
When the race came to life, Torgerson slipped back to sixth initially before he raced into fourth on the fourth lap where he settled in during the majority of the first half of the race.
Following the stop, the Glendale, AZ runner slipped back to fifth on the 21st lap and then was in sixth on the 23rd lap as he raced wheel-to-wheel with some of the sports top talent.
Continuing to hold his own, Torgerson worked his way back into fifth before slipping back to eighth in the closing lap. Keeping the Shark Racing mount solidly in the Top-10 in the closing laps, Torgerson brought the grueling weekend to a close with a ninth place finish and was named the Kings Royal Rookie of they Year.
“It is a really big honor to earn the Rookie of the Year at the Kings Royal and to do it by having a Top-10 result,” Ashton Torgerson said. “It is also very cool to do this all with the Shark Racing team, and I really want to thank then for having confidence in me and for continuing to work so hard.”
