Ashton Torgerson Competes In First Bob Weikert Memorial
PETERSEN MEDIA- Continuing to run with the Shark Racing team, Ashton Torgerson competed in his first Bob Weikert Memorial over the weekend at Port Royal Speedway where he finished 18th on Saturday night before a tough night on Sunday saw his night end in the ‘C’.
“The first night went well for us and it was good to make a lot of laps on another big slick ½ mile, but Sunday night was definitely a little bit of a struggle,” Torgerson said.
While rain washed out the scheduled first night of ‘The Weikert’ on Friday night, Saturday night Torgerson got his night underway by timing in 29th in time trials amongst the 45 cars that were checked into the pit area.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Glendale, AZ driver settled into second as his heat came to life. Finishing in the runner up position, Torgerson was relegated to the ‘B’, where he found himself in the sixth starting position.
When the ‘B’ went green, he was able to log some solid laps as he raced into a transfer position. Able to get all the way up to second, Torgerson was able to punch his ticket into the opening night feature where he then took the green from the 22nd starting spot.
In the 25-lap feature, Torgerson was able to pick up a few spots as he ended up with an 18th place finish.
Returning to action on Sunday night, Torgerson timed in 23rd in his qualifying flight and then lined up in the fourth row of his heat race. Battling some engine issues, Torgerson ended up finishing eighth in his heat and found himself in the ‘C’ Main.
Still fighting some gremlins, Torgerson was unable to race his way into the ‘B’, as a 14th place finish ended his weekend.
