Kicking the 30th Trophy Cup off on Thursday night in Tulare, CA Ashton Torgerson got the night underway by timing in ninth fastest in his qualifying flight that put him in a great spot to earn points the rest of the night.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Torgerson needed to make a run in his heat to earn a spot in the feature event with only the winner and the high point earner earning the direct transfer.
Finishing fourth, Torgerson was not the highest point earner in his heat, but still was in a good position as he lined up on the front row of his ‘B’ main with four transfer positions ups for grabs.
Picking up a third-place finish, the Glendale, AZ runner was locked into the ‘A’ where his point total put him in the 16thstarting position fo4 the opening night’s 30-lap feature event.
Taking the green flag from the outside of the eighth row, Torgerson began working his way forward as valuable points came with each and every position picked up. With passing tricky with how the surface was, Torgerson was in 12th by the sixth lap and then was flirting with the Top-10 by the halfway point.
Once into the 11th, Torgerson settled in for the final half of the race as he took an 11th place finish and turned his attention to Friday night where he had another opportunity to better his Thursday night point total.
Friday night saw Torgerson nearly match his Thursday night as he again timed in ninth fastest in qualifications before again finishing fourth in his heat race.
Lining up on the front row of the ‘B’, a second-place finish again moved him into the feature event where he lined up 19thon the starting grid on this night. With the slick racing surface taking rubber int he feature event, passing was difficult at the back of the pack as the youngster got up to 16th when the checkered flag was displayed to the field.
Sitting 19th in Trophy Cup points heading into Saturday night heat races, Torgerson lined up in the third row of his heat looking to pick up more points to ensure a feature event starting position.
Not having the best luck in his heat, a tire ultimately sealed over on Torgerson’s entry, and he slipped back to finish eighth which knocked him out of the Top-20 in points and forced him into the ‘B’.
Lining up seventh in the semi, a very stout ‘B’ was full of action with a ton of talented drivers chasing after just four transfer positions into the feature event. Slipping as far back as 12th in the early laps of the ‘B’ with cars jockeying all over the Thunderbowl surface, Torgerson was able to make up a few positions in the back half of the race.
Racing back into 10th, Torgerson was abel to get back to ninth but it was not enough to move him into the feature event as he brought his Trophy Cup to an end.
