Ashton Torgerson Picks Up Win at Ocean Speedway
PETERSEN MEDIA- With questionable weather changing plans with the Shark Racing team, Ashton Torgerson returned to his family team to compete in California where he picked up a win on Friday night in Watsonville, CA before issues at Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night knocked him out of the top-five.
“It was fun to get back home race with the family team,” Ashton Torgerson said. “We had really good speed all weekend and it was great to get a win on Friday night.”
Trekking to Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA on Friday night, Torgerson got off to a quick start as he timed the Safety-Kleen backed No. 02 entry in third quickest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the pole of his heat race, Torgerson got the jump he was after as he took the early lead. Keeping his mount out front, Torgerson picked up the win and put his entry in the Dash.
Drawing the three pill for the Dash draw, Torgerson went on to finish third which put him in the second row of the 30-lap feature event.
When the 30-lap affair came to life, Torgerson settled into fourth where he ran for the first five laps before he worked his way into third. Continuing to use what he has learned driving in the Midwest and out East, Torgerson searched around the speedway before working his way into second just prior to the halfway point.
With Caleb Debem out front, Torgerson was methodical in his efforts as he took over the race lead on the 23rd lap. Out front, Torgerson handled business as he led the seven final laps to pick up the win.
Saturday night, the scene shifted to Petaluma Speedway where Torgerson was in action with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.
In what was his first ever appearance at Petaluma Speedway, Torgerson got off to a bit of a rough start as he timed in 18thfastest in time trials.
Finishing fifth in his heat race, the Glendale, AZ driver lined up 18th on the starting grid and was able to avoid some of the carnage in the early laps to work his way towards the top-five.
Using numerous restarts to his advantage, Torgerson was able to race his way into fifth, until a part failure hindered him and he slowly faded back to 11th when the checkered flag flew.
“Saturday night was the first time I have ever raced Petaluma Speedway and we struggled early in the night,” Torgerson said. “We got going pretty good in the feature until we had a part fail and I slipped back to 11th.”
