Becker Bags Fifth and Sixth Place Finishes at HK Classic
PETERSEN MEDIA- Sean Becker and the Bjork Motorsports team travelled to Watsonville, CA over the weekend for the Howard Kaeding classic where Becker earned finishes of fifth and sixth place finishes during the annual event.
“It was a really good weekend for our team, and really, both nights we were flirting with a spot on the podium,” Sean Becker said. “We just need to continue to work on being better early in the night to set our features up.”
The two-day stay at Ocean Speedway kicked off on Friday night where Becker timed the Bjork Construction backed No. 7B in fifth fastest in time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat, Becker couldn’t quite get into the lead as he settled in second. Needing to pick up the win to earn a Dash spot, Becker gave it a valiant effort as he settled for second and locked into the 10th starting spot in the 30-lap feature event.
The feature event was plagued by numerous stoppages on this night, but Becker took advantage as he used restarts to his advantage and was able to work into the fourth spot by the race’s halfway point as the track began to take a little rubber.
Moving around the speedway as he searched for a spot on the podium, Becker slipped back to sixth on the 22nd lap where he was forced to settle in as he went on to finish in sixth.
Returning to the ¼ mile on Saturday night for the HK Classic finale, Becker timed in sixth fastest in his qualifying flight and lined up on the front row of his heat race. Amidst a wild heat that actually saw Becker get over on his side, the Roseville, CA was able to charge from the back of the pack and finish fourth.
By way of his finish, Becker locked into the 12th starting position for the $10K-to-win 30-lap feature event.
Just as he did on Friday night, Becker was able to carve his way forward. Getting into eighth by the fifth lap, Becker continued to race hard on the extremely slick surface. Working into seventh on the 10th lap, Becker then moved into sixth a lap later before he cracked the Top-5 at the race’s halfway point.
In the top-five, rubber began to again go down on the speedway but he continued to chase after the likes of Landon Brooks and Ryan Bernal who ran just ahead of him.
As passing became difficult in the waning laps, Becker maintained his spot in the top-five as he closed the weekend out with a fifth place run.
BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-24, Wins-0, Top 5’s- 4, Top-10’s- 12
ON TAP: Becker and the Bjork Motorsports will now travel to Santa Maria Speedway on Saturday night.
