Becker Third at Johnny Key Classic
PETERSEN MEDIA- Sean Becker and the Bjork Motorsports team again ran well with the KWS/NARC Series on Saturday night as a return trip to Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA saw Becker score a third-place finish.
“In the feature event, the track threw Brad and I off a little, but we still had a very good car,” Sean Becker said. “I was able to catch a few breaks at the right times and it helped us get the Bjork Motorsports car on the podium.”
Returning to Ocean Speedway to close out the Summer Coastal swing, Becker got the night kicked off by timing the Bjork Construction/Kaeding Performance No. 7B in sixth fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the pole of his heat race, the outside groove proved to be a little better as Becker slipped into second as the race went green. Keeping a firm grasp on second, Becker’s finish put him in the eight-starting position for the 30-lap Johnny Key Classic feature event.
When the feature event went green, the red was instantly needed for a pile up on the back stretch, but after the restart the race clicked off a 15-lap green flag run. Working into fifth as the race came to life, Becker was in fourth by the seventh lap where he ran until the aforementioned caution flag flew.
The impending double-file restart saw the Roseville, CA driver take over the third spot as he chased after Bud Kaeding and Tanner Carrick who ran just ahead of him.
With the track staying in pretty good shape for most of the race, Becker was able to close in once the leaders got into traffic, but he just wasn’t able to get close enough to battle for the first two positions.
Holding down third, Becker closed the night on the podium and gained points in doing so as he sits seven points out of second and 12 out of the top spot as the series takes a bit of a hiatus with High Limit Racing heading to CA.
BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-26, Wins-0, Top 5’s- 6, Top-10’s- 17
