Brooks 7th at Watsonville Speedway; Late Incident Dashes Podium Hopes at Santa Maria Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Landon Brooks and Hamilton Racing were back in action following their last event getting rained out. Taking part in a coastal doubleheader with NARC, Brooks recorded a seventh-place finish on Friday night in Watsonville, CA before an incident while battling for second late in the race on Saturday night at Santa Maria Speedway ended his night a few laps early.

“Both nights we had really good speed, and we were all happy with the progress,” Brooks said. “I needed to clean a few things up on Friday myself, and on Saturday we just got caught up in an incident racing for second.”

Kicking the doubleheader weekend off on Friday night at Watsonville Speedway in Watsonville, CA Brooks timed the Lippert Construction/THE/Mozingo Construction backed No. 21L in 10th fastest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up third in his heat race, a very narrow surface early in the night made passing tough and he settled into fourth as the race went green.  Going on to finish fourth, Brooks then lined up 12th in the feature event.

When the feature event rolled around, Brooks got off to a good start as he was able to quickly work his way into the Top-10. Rolling around in 10th for the first half of the feature, Brooks worked into ninth on the 18th lap, before making a couple of nice moves on laps 25 and 27 to take over seventh, which is where he capped the night off.

Saturday night, the scene shifted to Santa Maria Speedway where the Rio Oso, CA driver got his night underway by timing in ninth quickest in qualifying time trials.

Finding himself on the front row of his heat race, Brooks was hard on the throttle when the green lights flashed and powered into the lead. Scoring the win, Brooks earned a spot in the all-important Dash, where his sixth-place finish put him in the third row to start the feature.

Despite the surface being extremely fast, Brooks had a great car underneath him that allowed him to move forward. Battling hard, Brooks was up into the third position as the laps clicked down. Continuing to run hard, Brooks went to make a move for second, but contact ensued and it resulted in a collapsed front end which brought his night to an end.

“The track was really locked down on Saturday, but Steven, Kyle, and Tanner gave me a really good car and we were able to make some passes and chase after the leaders,” Brooks said. “Unfortunately, we got collected trying to pass for second and it brought our night to an end. I really want to thank my guys for their hard work all weekend, as well as Roger and Lori Hamilton for what they continue to do for me. I also want to thank all of our partners who make long weekends like this possible.”
