Bubba DeCaires Back in Skagit Speedway Top-5
PETERSEN MEDIA: As the weekly action at Skagit Speedway quickly begins to wrap up, Bubba DeCaires put together a nice night in the penultimate 360ci race of the season as he tallied a fifth-place finish on Saturday night.
“Our night started out pretty bad with us not getting a good lap at all in qualifying,” Bubba DeCaires said. “Fortunately, we made a ton of changes throughout the night and we had a really nice run in the feature and turned a negative night into a positive.”
Getting the night kicked off by timing the Morrison Concrete/Max Sells powered by Red Leaf Realty/High Sierra Industries backed No. 94 in 12th fastest, DeCaires found himself in a bit of an early hole.
Lining up outside of the third row of his heat race, DeCaires worked into fifth as soon as the green lights were displayed to the field. Continuing to search around the Speedway, the Elk Grove, CA native’s fifth place finish put him in the fifth row for the 30-lap finale.
Making wholesale changes to his No. 94 car prior to the feature, DeCaires hit the track and ran inside the Top-10 in the early goings of the race. As much of the field pounded the curb that was built up along the fence at Skagit Speedway, DeCaires dipped low and began to slow roll the famed track.
Beginning to work his way forward, DeCaires was able to patiently pick up spots with the passing of each lap. Getting into fifth in the final laps, DeCaires would hold on for his seventh Top-10 of the year and his third Top-Five as he now looks forward to two nights at the famed Calistoga Speedway this weekend.
“I was really happy with how the car was in the feature event, and I think had it gone non-stop I would have been able to pick up another spot or two,” DeCaires said. “Qualifying has been hard on us all year, so hopefully we can get that ironed out before the last race of the season there in a couple of weeks.”
