Bubba DeCaires Makes Calistoga Speedway Debut
PETERSEN MEDIA: Despite running in Washington all season long, Bubba DeCaires took advantage of an open weekend to compete in his native California as he made his first ever start at Calistoga Speedway.
“I felt really good on Saturday night, but unfortunately I had a fuel leak end our race early,” DeCaires said. “Sunday, we just weren’t able to get timed in well and we were in a hole the rest of the night, but I was still really happy to finally get a chance to race at Calistoga Speedway.”
Timing in 11th fastest in qualifying time trials on Saturday night, DeCaires’ fifth place finish in his heat race put him in the fifth row of the 25-lap feature event.
When the Saturday night feature event came to life, the Elk Grove, CA native was able to settle into the Top-10 as he focused on making clean laps on the hooked-up Calistoga Speedway surface.
As the race clicked off laps, fuel started to spray DeCaires’ leg and with an apparent fuel leak, he opted to head back to the pit area and call it a night early.
Back in action for Sunday night’s Louie Vermeil Classic finale, DeCaires got the night underway by timing the Morrison Concrete/Max Sells powered by Red Leaf Realty/High Sierra Industries backed No. 94 in 14th fastest in time trials.
Getting stacked up at the start of his heat race, a collapsed nose wing made things difficult for DeCaires as he simply got in in line and did what he could with the shaky front end. Finishing eighth, DeCaires gridded the field from the 16th spot for the 25-lap Louie Vermeil Classic finale.
On a surface that had a ton of speed in it, DeCaires was slowly able to pick up a few spots during the fast-paced feature that went caution free. Working his way towards the Top-10, DeCaires’ efforts came up just short as he closed the weekend out with a 13th place finish.
“Sunday night, I was happy to make good laps all race long,” DeCaires said. “Once the field gets spread out there (Calistoga) it is hard to make up ground, and with the race going nonstop it made passing even more difficult.”
