Chance Grasty Races into First Super Dirt Cup Feature
PETERSEN MEDIA- A grueling trip to the northwest for Chance Grasty and F&F Racing led them to the Jim Raper Super Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway, and amidst the star-studded field, Grasty raced his way into the Saturday night feature event in what was his first attempt at the storied race.
“First and foremost I need to thank the entire F&F Racing team as well as our partners for taking a chance on NARC Speedweek and getting up to Dirt Cup,” Chance Grasty said. “It was a really taxing 10 days, and I am so thankful to have had the opportunity.”
Getting his first Super Dirt Cup kicked off on Thursday night, Grasty took to Skagit Speedway quickly as he timed the Bushey Financial Services/C&H Motor Parts/Sierra Single Ply Roofing backed No. x1 entry in 10th fastest in his qualifying flight.
Finishing fifth in heat race competition, Grasty didn’t quite have enough points to lock into the feature, but he did start up front in the night’s ‘B’ Main as he took the green flag from third.
Needing to keep his mount inside the top-four to advance into the opening night feature, the Suisun City, CA driver did just that as a second-place finish placed him in the 11th row for the 30-lapper.
On a racy Skagit Speedway surface, Grasty was able to move forward and acquire valuable event points. When the checkered flew on night one, he came home with a 17th place finish.
Back in action on Friday night, Grasty again laid down a very good lap in qualifying time trials as he again was 10thfastest in his group.
Finishing fourth in his heat on this night, Grasty avoided the ‘B’ and moved straight into the ‘A’ where he lined up 19th. When the feature event went green, Grasty was able to make some serious headway as he worked his way forward in a hurry using the low groove to perfection.
Racing his way all the way up to fifth in the closing laps, a green-white-checkered restart saw him lose a couple of positions as he fell back to finish seventh.
Finding himself 12th in event points heading into Saturday night’s finale, Grasty picked up a third-place finish in his qualifier and locked into his first Super Dirt Cup feature event.
Lining up 16th in the feature, Grasty felt like he had a good car early, but just simply couldn’t get moving forward during the 40-lapper. Holding down his spot in 16th, Grasty tried to make a run, but in the end, he closed Super Dirt Cup out with a 16th place finish.
“We had a really good trip to Skagit for the Super Dirt Cup, it was just a bit of a bummer with how our final night went,” Grasty added. “Still, very happy to make the show against some really tough competition, and looking forward to doing it again.”
