Chiaramonte 4th at Imperial Valley with USAC/CRA
PETERSEN MEDIA: Back in action at one of his favorite tracks over the weekend, Braden Chiaramonte overcame mechanical issues on Friday night and ran four during Saturday’s feature at Imperial Valley Speedway.
“We had a great car both Friday and Saturday night, and I am happy to come away with a Top-5,” Braden Chiaramonte said. “Friday night we were really good in the feature, but I had a throttle linkage feature get the best of us after I raced into second.”
Getting the weekend kicked off on Friday, Chiaramonte timed in sixth fastest in qualifying time trials on a surface that had gotten extremely slick as the qualifying session moved along.
Lining up sixth in his heat race, the El Cajon, CA driver was extremely impressive in heat race action as he carved his way forward and picked up the win.
With his win as well as the feature event inversion, Chiaramonte found himself on the pole of the feature event. When the green lights flashed, Chiaramonte darted out to the early lead, but a slight misstep on the third lap saw Chiaramonte get tight and slip back to fourth.
Once he settled back into the flow of the race, Chiaramonte was able to make up the lost ground as he worked his way back into second. Once in second, Chiaramonte closed in on the leader until he drastically slowed, and his night came to an end with a broken throttle linkage.
Right back to it on Saturday night, Chiaramonte went out first for time trials, and despite the track still being on the wet side, he timed in 12th fastest overall.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Chiaramonte was able to showcase the same speed he had on Friday night as he powered to the win and earned the seventh starting position for the impending feature event.
From the fourth row of the feature event, Chiaramonte got a strong jump as he entered the top five and settled into fourth. Running in fourth, Chiaramonte started to battle a loose race car as the laps clicked off and it forced him to settle into his position rather than challenge for positons ahead.
Driving a very smooth race, the youngster capped his night off with a fifth place finish as he now turns his attention to winged racing next weekend.
BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 3, Wins- 0, Top 5’s- 1, Top 10’s- 1
ON TAP: Chiaramonte will be at Watsonville Speedway on 3/27 and Thunderbowl Raceway on 3/28.
