C&M Motorsports Nets Third and Seventh Place Finishes During Memorial Day Weekend
PETERSEN MEDIA- Working with Ryan Bernal and Colby Copeland over the weekend, the C&M Motorsports team picked up third (Copeland) and seventh (Bernal) place finishes during their weekend stops in Chico and Marysville, CA.
Saturday night the busy weekend came to life as Ryan Bernal made his first start with the team as they checked in at Chico, CA’s Silver Dollar Speedway for the annual Silver Dollar Fair race.
With 32 cars checked into the pit area, Bernal timed the NOS Energy Drink/Lund Construction/Anrak backed No. 7c in fifth fastest in his qualifying flight. Running second in his heat race, the Hollister, CA native turned Roseville, CA resident found himself in the 10th starting position for the 25-lap feature event.
When the race finally got underway after a couple of early stoppages during the initial start, Bernal was able to move into seventh as he continued to acclimate to the Cody and Mandi Geaney owned entry.
Continuing to battle hard in seventh, Bernal worked into sixth on the 15th lap as the leaders found themselves in traffic.
With laps clicking away and the track continuing to change, Bernal did slip back to seventh on the 24th lap where he went on to finish.
“I am really thankful that Cody and Mandi gave me a great opportunity, and it was great to get back to the track for the first time in a little over a month,” Ryan Bernal said. “The car was great; I just needed to get us timed in better. I have to give Cody and Bobby a big ‘thank you’ for working so hard all night, and I am looking forward to doing it again.”
Sunday night, Colby Copeland rejoined the team and they made their way to Marysville Raceway for the Hall Memorial with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.
With 27 cars checked in, Copeland went out dead last for time trials and still laid down a great lap as he was able to get timed in sixth fastest.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Copeland was hard on the throttle as he powered into the race lead. Picking up the heat race win, Copeland went on to win the High Sierra Industries Dash which put him on the pole of the feature event.
Getting out to the early lead, Copeland looked very stout in front of the field. A couple of early yellows kept him out of traffic as he continued to lead the way.
Just passed the halfway point, a lap 18 restart saw Andy Forsberg get around him to take over the top spot, and as Copeland looked for a way to get by him to reclaim the top spot, Chance Grasty was able to sneak by to put him back in third.
Holding onto third over the final laps, Copeland closed the night out on the podium with the C&M Motorsports team.
“Sunday night went well, and it felt great to be out front and leading laps,” Copeland said. “I just need to clean a few things up on my end, and I think we can continue to run up front and contend for wins.”
The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank NOS Energy Drink, Lund Construction, Anrak, Sam Rhodes, MatriScope, Econo Lube-n-Tune, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, Kings Meats, American Paving Systems, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
